Default 9900 on T-Mobile Network speeds

Please Login to Remove!

Has anyone tested both 9900 and 9930 side by side to see what kind of speed differences they report?

I had disappointing results with 9930 on Verizon and I am considering taking it back and moving on to T-Mobile. (I am originally an AT&T customer and I am not thinking of staying with AT&T even though I have unlimited data)

You will probably not get any greater than 3-4 Mbps on Verizon. You should see 6-8 or better with T-Mobile.

I wish we could see 3-4 on our Blackberry with Verizon..... I seriously doubt that, unless we tether, then it is a totally different story.

T-Mobile offers free HotSpot with the premium blackberry package, it should be very easy to test it.

Yes, it should. I can't give you any results right now as I am in BFE with only EDGE service.

You are in British Forum for Ethnomusicology? Or in "Egypt"? It's the first time I see someone actually use the acronym. Let us know when you get to somewhere civilized to go above EDGE. PS: I have seen my wife's EDGE 8900 on T-Mo perform much faster than my 3G 9700 on AT&T in most cases. It just seemed much less laggy.

Yes, I am in Egypt. ;)

I actually live in a civilised area, but I'd not yet attempted speedtest.net tethered through my 9900 to see how it went. LOL

OK, will look forward to it.
Meanwhile, my 9930 went back to Verizon, and T-Mobile is selling 9900 for $300~ They must be crazy. AT&T via Amazon is offering it for $70. Costco is offering it for $150.
I wonder if T-Mo will reduce the price soon, $300 + 2yr contract at $80/mo is just too high!

Hey dc/dc, did you get a chance to test your 9900?

Nope, I didn't go to civilisation because my friend flaked out on me so I didn't waste the petrol. :(

Well ...more time for me to wait for T-Mobile to drop the ridiculous price down to something reasonable.

Honestly, I'm not even sure I'm going to stick with T-Mobile after their announcement that they will cap data roaming at 50 MB per month, and once you reach that, you can no longer use data whilst roaming. This won't work at all for me because usually when I roam, I'm out for weeks at a time and can hit 50 MB pretty quickly.

Noting that you have a Turkish football crest in your avatar, this may be a sticking point for you too.

Hah, thanks but when I travel overseas I usually buy the international data package (I hope T-Mo would offer that) and use it and cancel it when I get back and pay pro-rated.

Last time I went to Europe, I paid for 12 days of data, I think it was 75 or 100 MB (with Blackberry this was more than enough) for $25 or $30 I forgot...

T-Mobile does not offer that, unfortunately. They have a BlackBerry package, but it is very limited. Anything other than e-mail incurs data roaming charges at $15/MB. There used to be a workaround for it (I roamed for six months straight with no data charges), but they caught on.

Wow, so there is on way to roam internationally with a data block purchase?
I would be OK with e-mail only, as long as that will include attachments, etc.. What do they charge for e-mail only?

Nope.

It should include attachments, but the folks at T-Mobile CC don't really know or care and that's why I dropped them the last time. I had been roaming for six months straight, went to Germany for 4 days for a vacation and got hit for $50 in data roaming. I called and asked them to take it off, and they asked what I'd used my device for, and I lied and said just e-mail and they said that opening attachments is what caused it. I'm an IT guy, and I know how BIS works, so the way my phone was set up I shouldn't have been charged roaming at all, but they didn't see it that way and persisted in their ignorance.

The upside is it's only $20 for "unlimited international BlackBerry e-mail".

Well, that sounds like more than enough.. But how the heck are we going to turn off rest of the data to make sure nothing goes on and we don't get billed roaming data..

Could not reply via PM...

Thanks! I am really not sure if I will go with T-Mobile after checking these, even crappy AT&T is looking better since they spell out everything clearly and offer pretty reasonable customer service.. Knowing how T-Mo works, and how worse they got over the recent years, it feels kind of iffy.. Only if darn AT&T had good reception in my area, I wouldn't look back, but they are Ter Ri Ble! I really loved Verizon's service, though, but getting stuck in 3G for 2 more years? come on..

Oh, sorry about that. I have PMs blocked... LOL

To be quite honest, I'll take 3G and decent battery life over the speed of LTE. The batteries in the one LTE device I owned (HTC Vivid) was absolutely horrid.
