Will existing phones be updated or will the current owners have to fork out for new phones? It's nice to see BB finally get a 4G device.

I've been told that the software for the T-Mobile 9900 will be out in November. It will work, well, on existing 9900s.

So the limitation isn't hardware it's software. If it's just software then there's no reason to wait since eventually you'll have top of the line latest and greatest.

To my mind, either the rep over on the other forum is wrong, or the speculation that T-Mobile is holding off enabling UMA until it can do handoffs is wrong. I hope the rep is misinformed and your speculation is correct, and that when UMA is enabled that the 9900 does handoffs.

It should be noted that there is a difference between wifi calling and uma calling. UMA is capable of handoffs whereas WiFi calling is not. I don't know if the TMobile rep was totally clear.

So when I go on T-Mobile's website, and look for phones, there is no option to sort by UMA like they used to have. I am wondering if T Mobile is moving away from UMA. They do instead of WiFi Calling as an option. Under that, the 9900 is listed as a WiFi Calling phone. What do you guys think?

Currently, Blackberries are the only phones sold by T-Mo that support full UMA. THe Android phones have a software based VOIP calling program that does not support hand-off. I would guess that instead of maintaining 2 checkboxes, 1 for UMA and 1 for wi-fi calling on the website, they just consolidated it into 1 box called wi-fi calling. As to why the 9900 is included when you check the box, hopefully it is in advance of things to come.

The device supports UMA but TMobile isn't supporting it because the UMA>EDGE handoff is broken. It works in some locations but not others. Its a known issue.

If you don't want to use UMA then you need to go into the mobile network settings and change it to mobile network preferred.

One thing to note, though is that the 9360 isn't a 4G phone like the 9900. It's possible that's why it has UMA and the 9900 doesn't.

Yes it is 3G only which is fine with me. And it is set to wifi preferred..

I do want UMA, I just was not sure why it has it and my 9900 does not..

It is a problem yet to be solved if you read up the thread. November is the word. We'll see.

It is a 4G and OS7 problem. There are carriers other than T-Mobile that utilize UMA. Rogers and Orange come to mind. Neither of them have UMA enabled on their 9900's yet either.

New news, same as the old news ...

WiFi Calling coming to T-Mobile BlackBerry Bold 9900 in November | N4BB - News for BlackBerry - leaks, rumors, videos, faqs, reviews

And mention of "rumblings" that there will be no handoff of calls initiated on cell network to wifi, or vice versa.
