I have the tour with verizon and there is an icon on my home screen that I have no ide what it is for.
It is a small circle with hash marks on it and three wavey lines to the right of it. It sits at the top right corner below my coverage indicator (and it is not a bluetooth indication).
Anyone know what this is? I can't find anything on it in the information that came with the phone.
I've never seen it before on ANY of my BB's. I've always been with ATT but switched to VZW for the Tour, and when I noticed this I did a google search and found the above info.
The GPS was available on the 88xx phones, well at least on my 8830.
From what I've been reading, the GPS isn't really activated yet on the Tour phones, so it doesn't pinpoint your location within 10 meters. Instead, it uses the cell towers and does it within 500 meters.
Well I guess it is the GPS, but if you turn it off and only use it for emergency you would think the circle with hash mark icon would go away completely.
Turning it off only takes away message sending wavy lines.
Yeah I know...I was thinking it wouldn't show up after I turned it off but it just takes away the lines like you said. At least you know what it is now!!!!

Stop going wherever you read that or you may be mislead on other things too. That's just plain wrong.
The GPS on my 9630 on VZW is right on target with location - even inside a concrete building. On my 8830 I was lucky if it was within 5,000 meters. Back on subject, the GPS indicator changes based on the setting for "E911 Only" or "Location On".
