Loader will do the backup (assuming you check the correct box to back up your data), then wipe it out, reload it and restore your data. No need to use JL_CMDER unless you have a problem loading it "normally"...

Thank you so much for the help. As I'm watching the process, the loader did the back up, wipe it out & erasing, reload it and restored my data.

I have been running .428 for about a month. A couple of observations:

1. It still will not play WMA files. I am not sure if this happened when I upgraded the os to 7.1 or if I could not run WMA on 7.0. I should try it on my wife's curve 9360 before I upgrade her from 7.0 to 7.1. These files did and still do work just fine on my 9800 with os 6. It is not a hardware issue as I tried my micro sd card on a 9900 at a Rogers store and got the same result- "uncompatible format". Again the micro sd card works just fine in my 9800. Blackberry help was useless. They sent me a lenghty spec sheet with all their hardware and sortware capabilities which states that the 9900 with os 7.1 should play WMA files, but it does not. I would have thought that a 9900 running os 7.1 would be able to run at least those files that a two year old 9800 running os 6.

2. One nice feature that is evident in .428, but was not in earlier versions of 7.1 is the ability to see all the icons on the "all" home page just by scrolling down, instead of taking the extra step of "expanding all". I am not sure if it first appeared in .428 or in an earlier version, but it was not in the earliest versions of 7.1. Instead of having two or three lines in the default "all" screen, I just have one line with the most used icons so that my calaendar third party background can show the maximum appointments. If I want more programs I just scrool down and the full three lines are displayed until I exit out. Great usability feature.

You can do this by finger tapping the ALL banner as well. Another thing you can do, if you didn't know about it, is minimize/maximize the tray by moving the ALL banner up and down with your finger. You can get 1,2,3 or even 0 rows to show this way

UMA works on this build. As for WiFi Hotspot, you should call your carrier.

The link in the OP still works and directs the user to 9900jAllLang_PBr7.1.0_rel1424_PL5.1.0.338_A7.1.0.4 28_SmarTone_HK.exe

If you are looking for the latest Thai carrier release then look here http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...languages.html

You can also (after downloading the version you want to install), connect your BB to your PC and run the Loader. Instructions at the top of all OS threads.

Error 507 just means there is no OS installed on your BB.

I just ran the loader but it did not do anything. It is asking me to install .alx files or .ali. I still need to figure out how to get it out of 507 on the blackberry screen

KB11320-How to perform a clean reload of the BlackBerry Device Software for Windows

What about DM? Delete all previous OS builds from your computer, make sure the latest, or the version you want is installed. If it is a different carrier, then follow the instructions (depending on what versions of Windows you are running for the vendor file(s)), and connect your phone.

I tried to open DM but it does not recognize the USB connection. With the loader it does but again it asks for a file to install. It is almost as if it thinks it has the latest 7.1 software but it does not. This is why i was confused when i check the status is had 7.0.0xxx instead of 7.1.

I have downloaded the 7.1 link on the first post and installed it and that is the only software installed on the pc right now. Just very confused.

I used JL_Commander to wipe it and I still get 507 as I expected. I downloaded the latest Desktop Manager and installed it. When i have the blackberry hooked up via usb the DM does not recognize it. I'm getting nervous here

Ok some update in case someone else has this issue. Set your option in DM to automatically connect to DM when your Bb is connected. I enabled this options closed DM unplugged the BB and plugged it back in and now it recognizes it and it looks like it is updating to the latest OS. I never went through this much work to update an OS before on any BB.
