Default Message included an invalid recipient

Please Login to Remove!

Hello,

Has anyone came across this error when trying to send email from the Blackberry? "Message included an invalid address". It happens for all addresses. Receiving email is still working fine.

We are running BES 4.1.3.18 with Exchange. The server and Blackberrys had been working fine up until the DST upgrades (server, exchange and blackberry) that I applied. I have ran the SetSendAsPerm tool and the permissions seem to have been set right for each user.

This is happening with all users on the BES.

From the MAGT log:

[40700] (03/23 14:45:29.026):{0xB78} {user@ourdomain} Receiving packet from device, size=118, TransactionId=-1356928394, Tag=6928, content type=CMIME, cmd=0x3

[40279] (03/23 14:45:29.807):{0xB78} {user@ourdomain} SubmitToRelaySendQ, Tag=20934

I have been working with tech support but don't seem to be getting anywhere. Any ideas?

this may be a bizarre suggestion, but do you have a BIS account set up on one of the BB's? can you try sending from that account and seeing if the mail goes through?

A BIS account would be for example [email address]?
If so, yes, that account will send mail.

Seems like a permission issue of some sort!

Logon to a computer as the Service Account and create a MAPI profile for the BB user, try sending an email... share the results

Thanks for the suggestion. I can send mail as the blackberry users.

Are there other tests that I can do to make sure the permissions are correct?

I have ran the effective permissions on each user on the BES to make sure that the BES service account has send as/recieve as/list contents permissions.

also, have you recently restarted you exch server? I just swiped KB11103 from blackberry:

New BlackBerry device users may not start properly on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, having a status of Initializing, and some existing BlackBerry device users are unable to send email messages. The application log will display the following entries:

Event Type: Warning
Event Source: BlackBerry Messaging Agent BES Agent 1
Event Category: None
Event ID: 20154
Date: 11/16/2006
Time: 14:27:02 PM
User: N/A
Computer: BES
Description:
The description for Event ID ( 20154 ) in Source ( BlackBerry Messaging Agent BES Agent 1 ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: User <name> not started.

Event Type: Warning
Event Source: BlackBerry Messaging Agent BES Agent 1
Event Category: None
Event ID: 20265
Date: 11/16/2006
Time: 14:27:06 PM
User: N/A
Computer: BES
Description:
The description for Event ID ( 20265 ) in Source ( BlackBerry Messaging Agent BES Agent 1 ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: {<user>@<domain>} MAPIMailbox::Send(ppMAPIMessage) - SubmitMessage (0x80004005) failed.

Cause

The Microsoft Exchange server has been restarted, which disrupts the Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) connections made from the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.

Resolution

Important: Restarting the BlackBerry Enterprise Server will delay email message delivery to BlackBerry devices. For more information, see KB04789.

Restart the BlackBerry Enterprise Server to restore proper MAPI connections.

Whenever one or more Microsoft Exchange messaging servers have been restarted, intentionally or otherwise, the BlackBerry Enterprise Server should also be restarted.

Thanks for all the help.

I ended up working this out with support this morning.

Months back had made some changes to the registry to get LDAP search to work.
The keys were described in Blackberry KB-03193. At the time these changes were made to get the lookup to work.

Deleting these keys, recreating the MAPI profiles for the server and manager and rebooting the server has fixed the problem. With the keys deleted it returns to MAPI lookup by default.

Maybe someone in the forum can shed more light on why the LDAP keys broke sending and why it happened now instead of when the changes were first made, support was somewhat vague just saying that "MAPI is the default and LDAP isn't".

Thanks again.

Default same problem for me

I i have the same problem with BES 4.1.3 i noticed that the error is related to the "Configuring address lookup support in a hosted environment" configuration. In fact if i remove that configuration all works correct.
Have you resolved your problem ?

"Configuring address lookup support in a hosted environment"
consit in ...

Customize the address lookup function
1. At the command prompt, type regedit.
2. In the left pane, browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Enterprise Server\Agents.
3. Verify that the value of the AllowAddressLookup DWORD value is set to 1.
4. Create a DWORD value called HostedServer.
5. Set the value to 1.
6. On the computer on which the BlackBerry Enterprise Server is installed, in the Services window, restart the BlackBerry Controller service.
Use LDAP for address lookup
1. At the command prompt, type regedit.
2. In the left pane, browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Enterprise Server\Agents.
3. Create a DWORD value called LDAPSearch.
4. Set the value to 1.
5. Create a DWORD value called LDAPALPSearch.
6. Set the value to 1.
7. On the computer on which the BlackBerry Enterprise Server is installed, in the Services window, restart the BlackBerry Controller service.
Create a custom field for LDAP address lookup
1. At the command prompt, type regedit.
2. In the left pane, browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Enterprise Server\Agents.
3. Create a String value called LDAPCompanyField.
4. Set the value to a string that represents the LDAP field that you want to use as the company name field.
5. On the computer on which the BlackBerry Enterprise Server is installed, in the Services window, restart the BlackBerry Controller service.

Thank you for all suggestion

The settings allow you to perform address lookup using ldap as opposed to mapi. The new HF2 for SP3 seems to fix this, although the mapi version of lookup used to be broken prior to SP2, so it seems like they are still making progress lol.
