Default Disable data functionality?

Please Login to Remove!

I frequently get requests to disable the data functionality of their blackberry (7290 or 8700c) from users that are traveling abroad and dont want to incur large data charges (2 cents per kb!!!!). Do I just need to disable email redirection and wireless pim sync until they return?

I would prefer not to have to call Cingular and cancel their data service and then re-enable it everytime someone leaves the country and comes back. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Ask the users to disable email redirection from their device-Messages>Options>Email Settings>Forward Email to HH =NO

or You could do what you suggesed from the BES

There is no need in calling the Carrier to disable services or you could call the Carrier and have them remove the International Roaming Data SOC from the user's account.. Some carriers have seprate International Voice and Data SOC..

I still like the first solution..

I have been hearing that despite email and wireless PIM synchronization being disabled on the server, that users will still get data charges when the device is trying to find towers. Is this not true?

Either way, I will take care of it on the server.

Go to Options > Network > Data Service > set to off. I have a T-Mobile 7100t and have this option.

This option does not exist on the Cingular 8700c.

Turn their MDS access off, as well as email access. If you want to go crazy, tell them to turn the wireless radio off. At that point the BB is just another piece of meaningless executive bling... but that way, no contact will be made with anything. The lead box approach works too.
