Wirelessly posted (Verizon 8830: BlackBerry8830/4.2.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/105)

Any comments about us getting a Webdesktop Manager as opposed to what we have now?

Isn't it available already? I don't think it's a rumor.

Edit: Adding link. BlackBerry - BlackBerry | BlackBerry Web Desktop Manager

Thank you.
Maybe someone who has access can move the thread. I see it is for BES users.

it would be nice if the could offer support for a mac, it only downloads an .exe file.

I think you're misunderstanding what this Web Desktop Manager download does.
The .exe file you download is the server component which provides the Web Desktop Manager Services. It's not something that would get installed on your PC or Mac. It gets installed in a BES environment, on a server.

That said, it still won't work for Mac users (yet?) but not for the reason you specify.

According to the WDM documentation, the requirements for the user computer are:
To use the BlackBerry Web Desktop Manager, users must have Microsoft® Internet Explorer® Version 5.5 or later and
one of the following operating systems installed on their computers:
xxx8226; Microsoft® Windows® 2000 Professional SP4 or later
xxx8226; Microsoft Windows XP Professional

No Mac, no Vista.

To extend a bit on what penguin said, the Web-based Desktop Manager is an extension of BES, actually updating the BES Management Database schema during the installation. You're promtped with a user login and that is only valid for accounts found within that BlackBerry SQL database/Domain. It's really quite nifty, and I'm sure the natural evolution of the product would be a hosted WDM solution. I'm just not sure how they'd go about doing it, to be honest.
