Instead of installing the Mobile Phone Tools, why not just use sox?

http://sox.sourceforge.net/

It's a command line utility to convert sound files; it supports oki adpcm.

Did you set the mime type correctly? Check first post.

The Oki format files that I created w/ Sox, as well as several other apps (prior to finding Mobile Phone Tools) would not play on the 7100. Haven't bothered trying it since. If it works for you, cool.

Exclamation Problems after setting Server MIME

I did the configuration on Apache for the SERVER MIME settings. It wasn't working, wasn't working. I finally figured out that I did everyone thing correctly but I needed to clear the BlackBerry BROWSER CACHE so it would download my ringtone with the correct MIME setting. I hope this helps others.

i had the same type of problem. i cleared my cache before i had the mime.types file done correctly, so i just renamed the .adp file and it worked fine.

Question

Hi guys!

A few question regarding ringtones. ADP ringtones are 16bit mono 16khz. Will the BB be able to play 8bit mono 16khz? And then rename it to ADP? I don't have the chance to test it for a few weeks.

Another question is the file size limit. With the new OS 4 isn't the size limit extended? Like 256K instead of 128K? Because in most of the cases the phones rings for about 30secs before going to voice mail. With 256K file limit you can have one ringtone for complete 30secs instead of repeating.
I don't know if you can get my idea.

Kind regards.

Sorry I've been out for awhile, vacation time for me. Anyways, I see that my site is out of bandwidth. What I get I guess for using free hosting. I already bought some more b/w and it is supposed to kick in within the next 12 hours. Sorry about the delay I'll have it all back soon, and hopefully with a new domain name.

Default Help on Quality

Thanks everyone (especially Lucky) for this thread. I just upload (and downloaded to my 7100) my first ADP (Alien Ant Farm "Smooth Criminal") for anyone who cares. It works but the quality is only OK.

I've read in this thread that reducing the output volume can help. Is there anyway to do that on Audacity? I'm looking everywhere but cannot seem to find a way.

Also any other tips on maximizing quality would be appreciated. I want to get it perfect when I prepare and upload "Battle without Honor" (the Kill Bill theme).

Thanks again.

Default 2 Qs...

1st Q...

I have my website up (using IIS on 2003 server), I have added the "audio/adpcm adp" MIME type. When I try to download it on the BlackBerry, I still get the 406:Not Acceptable error...I can get them from LuckyLuciano's place though. Any Ideas...am I missing something here?

2nd Q...

After I get these things on the BlackBerry, is there anyway to remove or rename them?

Thanks for any help ya'll can give me...

Default Sample code for IIS / ASP Ringtone Download

First, follow the instructions in the first post on this thread. I used 'sndrec32.exe' which comes with windows to record songs I played using Itunes. I had to set the input for the recording by playing around with the volume controls; can provide more info on that if desired.

Anyway, I used the motorola software to create the ADP files, but like a lot of folks, couldn't get the files to download. And my web host doesn't provide access to setting MIME types.

Dusting off my brain, and taking a 'read binary file in ASP' function I found via a Google search, I put together the following ASP file. It's not fancy; you have to edit the list of links at the top to include your own adp filename, and the files have to be in the same directory as the code, which you simply save as an ASP file on an IIS box configured to run ASP files.

Anyway, hope this helps!

-CTW

Code:
<html>
<body>
<a href=<%= request.servervariables("SCRIPT_NAME") %>?f=somesong.adp>somesong</a><br>
<%

if right(trim(request("f")),3)="adp" then

response.clear
response.contenttype="audio/adpcm"

strFile = server.mappath(request("f"))
Response.BinaryWrite getBinaryFile(strFile)
response.end

end if

Function getBinaryFile(strFilePath)

  Dim TypeBinary, oStream

  TypeBinary = 1   ' Indicates a binary file

  ' Create the object
  Set oStream = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Stream")

  ' Open our file
  oStream.Open

  ' Retreive binary data from the file
  oStream.Type = TypeBinary
  oStream.LoadFromFile strFilePath

  ' Return the binary data to the caller
  getBinaryFile = oStream.read

  ' Destroy the ADO object
  Set oStream = Nothing

End Function
%>
</body>
</html>
