Wirelessly posted (seventy one thirty: BlackBerry8700/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102)
From what I've read recently, it wouldn't be a wise move. There are plenty of reviews available. Google it.

Just go to the 8100 forum and start reading. Plenty of information there that should help you make a decision.

I think you need to decide on which form factor you prefer. That would get you started.

I can't stand SureType so I'm not switching no matter what features are on the Pearl (I hear there's a full qwerty model on the way anyway). Of course, that may be irrelevant in your case so you need to decide for yourself as others have mentioned.

i would get the Pearl if it had a full keyboard. i had the 7100t before and i had to get rid of it eventually cause the keyboard was just getting really annoying. i switched over to the tmobile mda, but returning to the blackberry world and getting an 8700 in a couple days since it has a full keyboard. i will never get a suretype phone again.

Looks like the main complaint in that forum is the phone wont ring if it's in your pocket becasue the trackball moves, even slightly and the phone wont ring. deal breaker if you ask me...

when I look at it, to me, it looks like a regular phone, with a large screen.
two letters per key is got to be annoying...
Blackberries with full keyboard is the only way for me.

It's really up to you. I recommend reading few topics under the 8100 topic.
For me, I will upgrade my 7290 to the 8100 because of the size and the features the phone have.
Only thing I don't like is the SureType but I guess I could live with that.

I have the 8700 and 7130 now.. I am going to get the perl because of the multimedia capabilites which interest me. form factor isn't a deal brake nore is the trackball. just buy a case for it and I'm set.

The coolness factor of the 8100 is pretty appealing at first, I have to admit, but that coolness will wear off real quick when you realize you can't type worth a crap.
If you NEED the multimedia stuff, then get the 8100. If not, then stick to the 8700. I have the 8700g, and love it. I will never use anything less than a full qwerty keypad.
...If they come out with a multimedia BB with a useable full QWERTY keypad, then I'll be all over it. I've got mixed feelings about that whole "trackball" thing though.
