Cool Weired On and Off reception with my unlocked phone (SOS sign instead of antenna bars)

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

I have encountered an issue. I have had a blackberry Bold 9000 for months now with the most recent OS on it (v4.6). I bought it for full price from a carrier and the cell phone was locked. (The reason I bought it from another carrier was that my carrier did not have the blackberry I wanted. So I unlocked the phone and placed my current carrier's sim card in it.)

the reception since then is very bad. The antenna bars suddenly disappears, or sometimes it shows "sos" or sometimes it does show the bars but there is no EDGE or 3G sign beside it (in the latter case i cant either dial or receive calls). Even when there is a reception, the phone constantly switches between EDGE and 3G.

When the cell phone has no reception i have to wait for few minutes for the reception to recover. Or I can manually reset the connection and it would work right after.

What do you suggest the problem could be? I have exchanged my phone with another brand new blackberry Bold from the same carrier and same thing is happening.

Wirelessly posted (8520 (5.0.0.411))

Is the reception like this in just one place e.g your home, or everywhere? It sounds a little like a weak reception.

Yes it tried it with two of my friends sim cards:

1. The first person's sim card was with the carrier that i purchased the phone from. it worked perfectly with no interruption
2. The second person's sim card was from the carrier I am with. And the same problem happened.

The problem occurs to me in every location. at home, at highway, at work. pretty much everywhere i am. every 5 minutes or so.

Hi,
I actually solved the problem. In "Mobile Network Option" changed the network mode to 2G instead of 3G. Problem solved.
