I'm new here and did a search and checked the FAQ - so please bear with me if this has been talked about before or is real simple to do....I tried....

I'm looking to get a bb. I see it'll come with a [email address]

email address. Cool........

I have an alerting system at work that sends emails out during emergencies to an email address. I will be using my [email address]

email address for that and turn the alerting volume on so that I can get woken up should an email come into that account...so far so good....

My question is, how can I read an other email account (imap at work for instance) WITHOUT it alerting me audibly that there are new messages? I'd like the ability to read these emails from my bb, but don't want them waking me up at night. Blackberry support tells me the sound off/on is a device setting and not an email account setting, so I can't figure out how to accomplish this.

Make sense? Does anyone have a way to do this?

a program called notifire will work perfectly for that you can set it up for all your accounts and have a profile called night where only the high priority email has an alert

They are correct. The BB device can be set to notify you of messages in or out of the holster. However, it cannot be set to notify on specific messages.

Another way would be to create a filter for those particular messages and have them flagged as 'Level 1 Messages'. Then you can create a profile which has an audible alert for Level 1 messages, and no alert for normal messages.

If all your alert messages are coming from one or more known e-mail addresses, you can configure those addresses as Level 1. Use the Web Client to do this, if you're not on BES. If you're on BES, you should be able to do the same thing through BES.

Then use the Profiles program on your BlackBerry to select a distinct ringtone for any messages arriving from Level 1 addresses. Messages arriving from other addresses will use a separate setting, so they wouldn't have to be audible.

notifire is the way to go it does it all for you like I set my wife as always i set all my work as work and I can switch between four five six different settings you have like 9 different tunes you can use I use mission impossible for my work contacts I use under pressure for my bosses and top gun theme for my pilot buddies so lots of different senarios you can do plus they are louder and can set them to never time out which means they will go off till you shut it off

Sure, it's the way to go if you want to pay for additional software instead of just using a free filter. Makes perfect sense to me.

yes but its a software well worth the money and most of you know how I feel about paying for software i hate to pay for anything this one is worth every penny.

I'm just saying you're giving bad advice.
The guy needed a way to distinguish between e-mail from 1 particular source and the rest of his e-mail messages. You can easily do that with a filter, for free.

I'm sure your software solution is great for what you need... but it's way overkill for what the original poster needs.

How the hell is it bad advice? its just as good as the pain in the butt way you are talking about. You dont know whats good for him you gave him a suggestion and so did I both are viable ways to do things. So give me a break telling me that I am giving bad advice.

penguin is recommending a "straight out of the box solution"
dawg is recommending 3rd party software that has added functionality and personalization that we all ask for and expect to be avail for our BB.

Dawg:Sounded like good advice and offered the user another creative option.

I completely agree!! Nobody can say for sure which solution is going to work for the poster, that's the point of a forum! To gather as much information about a question as possible so you can make an EDUCATED decision. When I want to know if a solution for a problem exists, I don't just want a "yes" and one option, I want to know ALL avenues available to me. Good call, Dawg!!

Nope.........

... I'm NOT trying to sort by SENDER..but by MAILBOX.
I need email coming into [email address]

to alert, mail to [email address]

to NOT alert.
The source is the same that sends the emails to [email address]

AND

, so filtering by sender does not address the issue.

It's a network monitoring program that does the sending. If it's a warning message, it simply emails [email address]

. If it's critical, it emails me at [email address]

, like I'm getting paged. I only want these messaging coming into [email address]

to audibly alert.

Right now - warning messages from the monitoring program email [email address]

. When it's a critical alert - it 'pages' me by emailing phone#@vtext.com which audibly sets off my phone's email alert sound.

Any more ideas before I cancel my order?

Could you show me the details of this on their website? I'm trying to find it and really can't pay $$$ for a BB that won't work the way I want it to. I gotta see that it will be able to have one mailbox beep and another be silent. All I see is SMS stuff on their web site.
