Default Looking for a Developer

Please Login to Remove!

I am looking for a developer for a project that I am working on. There is alot more to it but, the basics are I want to hook up a external webcam to a blackberry device and run an application that uses the Blackbery's phone as a modem feature.

If you feel you can do this, please let me know.

Thank you

this is not quite possible because a developer would need access to the kernel level of a blackberry device- which java ME does not provide. Such communication is only possible if you work for the development team of the webcam maker. They are the only people with access to the hardware specs to associate devices. on top of that, USB by spec requires 5 volts of power, a blackberry by no means is a device worth providing said power requirments. it barley has enough juice to power itself. i have just skimmed the top of issues related to this awesome idea, however, it is just not possible. maybe one day we will see phone with open source operating systems that Dev's can take advantage of.

Hi jweinstein

But why do you need an external web cam to connect to BB, You can use the BB cam itself as a web cam which I think is possible.

i agree, the only advantage would be either to track movement using the new webcams with integrated servos, or HD quality footage... but there poses yet another issue, BB's dont have to processing power to parse high quality formatted streams.

The person using the phone is hearing impaired. They would use the webcam to do sign language to the operator so she could relay the call. BB application would need to use the phone as a modem feature.

sounds like you want something like Qik | Share Live Video From Your Mobile Phone

forget about using an external camera - it won't be possible. and the blackberry acts as a modem only when it's used in connection with a computer. something like qik is doable though.

HI
I agree that blackberry acts as a modem only when it's used in connection with a computer. so follow that and you can do it..

Thanks
