Default Content Protection Question...

Please Login to Remove!

Hi

I was hoping to get some advice. I have a lot of personal data on my blackberry (account numbers, passwords etc..) and I do have a tendency to lose it every few months!

So - I've been concerned about security. I have set the device to lock after two hours - which feels like the right balance, becauseentering the password everytime I want to use it after 10 of non-use would be too painful.

What does content protection give me in addition to the password being enabled? If someone gets their hands on the locked blackberry - how much additional protection does content protection give them? Presumably they'd need to be fairly advanced to get past the password and start accessing the data on the blackberry?

The reason I'm asking is I believe content protection slows the blackberry down a bit - particularly on startup (I have a Storm and have to pull the battery fairly regularly!)?

Thanks,
Donal

Personally, I keep of my password and other propietary data in the Password Safe that is part of the BB OS. I alos have my device set to lock in 5 minutes. Doesn't seem to be a particular drain on my devce, and after a while, you get ysed to popping in the password.

There are also some third party security apps that have gotten some good reviews. Check out the Aftermarket Siftware section, there may be some info there that will assist you:

Content protection will encrypt the contents of your device..

So if someone was to take your BlackBerry and take apart to get to the internal memory it would not be readable.

Content protection is also Dependant on the complexity of your password.
And also by the level you set.
