No luck, i shut the service down for over 45 minutes, and also rebooted the server and had no luck. Im lost other then recreating the domain profile and trying that.

The time i noticed it was after upgrading to Exchange SP 2. I don't know if that has anything to do with it.

Since the Router shutdown didn't work for me I'll be adding myself into the same groups as the user, one at a time, until I break my Blackberry. What sort of lag is there between joining a group and it impacting on the Blackberry?

2 hours max; the amount of time the Exchange store.exe process caches permission information from AD. If you restart the information store process it'll flush / reload permissions ... but then your mail is down.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8130/4.3.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/106)

I switched devices and that didn't solve it. I'd believe a permissions issue as well but I have checked all my permissions and they are correct. Guess the only option would be to try using a different account to see if that leads to anything. Otherwise maybe recreating the user accout? I don't know I'm getting stumped on this.

Okay, I found the problem (after adding myself to every group one of the users was in and still failing to duplicate the problem after an ExchangeIS restart) and I feel pretty stupid. It turns out that the problem accounts weren't inheriting permissions in AD... in fact my account wasn't inheriting either, but it was working because I had a group in Send-on-behalf-of which included the BES admin, so while I had permission problems it didn't look like I did because Send-on-behalf-of was covering up the problem.

D'oh!

While I found it odd that the bes admin was not listed in my permissions list, he was on the container and my BB worked, so obviously it was right... and now I feel retarded ;)

I'm going to each problem account and re-enabling inheritance (which was disabled I suspect due to a permissions balls up we had last year) and now life is good

@hindgrinder

That isn't so you can see what you should be in, it's simply to check that one group doesn't belong to another which belongs to a protected group. It's basically so you can get a true view of the groups someone belongs to, all the way back along the MemberOf chain.

I'm having the exact same problem with one of my 7 users. However, I don't have them in any groups on the bes. And the BESAdmin account is listed with full mailbox access rights in the users AD/Exchange account. What am I missing here?...

When it comes to the dreaded Send As issue check the following:

1. Send As is set in AD at the root or OU level
2. Ensure that users have inherited the permission, kind of pointless if they don't have it
3. If not, make sure that no users, or the BESAdmin, are in any protected groups
- Administrators
- Account Operators
- Server Operators
- Print Operators
- Backup Operators
- Domain Admins
- Schema Admins
- Enterprise Admins
- Cert Publishers
4. If so, remove the user or besadmin, enable inheritance and make sure that Send As is set for the user

5. Stop the BB Router service for 2 hours, unless you set the reg on Exchange for it to clear the mailbox every 20 minutes. Or you can restart the information store as well.
6. Start the BB Router service and test

A good test as well if the permission is set for a user but can't send is this:

1. Log into a Windows XP machine as BESAdmin
2. Create an Outlook/MAPI profile for the affected user, without Cached Exchange Mode enabled
3. Open Outlook and you should see the users mailbox
4. Try sending an email to anyone

If the test fails then the permission has not yet written to the mailbox and you should try clearing the mailbox cache again or contact Microsoft about using DSACLS to forcefully write the permission to the mailbox.

I've seen it work when people are in groups that shouldn't work, I'm not sure why. The Send As issue is a pain in the ass because sometimes it fixes easily and sometimes Microsoft even has to get involved. Someone could have applied one of the fixes when people are in "Protected" groups, it's in one of the Microsoft KB's. You can make changes to adminSDholder container I think as a work around.

Out of the 20 calls I would answer in a day, at least 5 were Send As. I've even had Microsoft on the line and had to prove that it was no longer a BES issue. Once you've tried all of the fixes from Microsoft and they don't work, they usually run ADSIEdit or DSACLS to correct the issue.

Keep us posted if it worked or not.

well, i redid the send as on my user account, and i also removed my account from administrators. Seems like its working now. Hopefully itll stay. Im going to retry the account to the administrators and see if everything is still working after that. I wonder if when i ran the update to sp2 on exchange if that messed up the permissions.

I guess if everything is working i'll never know. Just that i redid the send as permissions on my account and it seemed to work.

UPDATE: Just readded my account to be a member of the Administrators.

I turned off the router for now. I'll turn it back on in a couple hours and see if my issue comes back. Will update once this is completed.

BTW, thank you for your help gibson. I never thought to check the Send As on my account. Knew i overlooked something!

Well it appears to the be the administrators membership that might be causing it.

When i restarted the router and tried it my send as was removed from the permissions. So i readded the send as and restarted the router and it appears to be working fine again. Im going to probably retry it again in a few days when i have more time to see if it really is the administrators membership or if its just AD removing my permissions for send as.

Also my inheritance keeps unchecking itself as well...any thoughts?

The groups listed in my first post on this thread all lose the Send As permission and inheritance because they are now "Protected" groups due to the security update from Microsoft. For a work around try this article from Microsoft - Delegated permissions are not available and inheritance is automatically disabled

Use Method 2 or 3 to keep yourself an administrator. They should work, as long as they are followed correctly.

Let us know if one of those works for ya.
