Never mind - I forgot to send the SERVICE BOOKS to my device and that fixed it - just in case anyone makes the same blundering mistake. All in all a very easy upgrade. Can anyone explain what the modified .alx files will do to my unit?

Anyone on here with Rogers that have upgraded and noticed an improvement ?

So far the only people that I see from Ontario/Rogers have complained after upgrading...

It's tempting because Rogers' official firmware is .51!!!! Which is WAAAAY old!

What restrictions do you see? I'm using the previous Cingular version and it seems to work fine as a bluetooth modem, headset, and my car. What problems are you seeing?

That's news to me. My bluetooth works fine with this release. I use an HS-655 and also use BT occasionally to backup to my pc.

However, if you want to downgrade here is the procedure. Be sure to make a backup of your data before proceding.

1. Uninstall any later versions of the OS from your PC.

2. Download and install to your PC, the OS of choice.

3. Delete the file "vendor.xml" located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader.

4. On your PC, install JL_CMDER, located Here. Connect the device and use JL_CMDER to wipe the device. Be sure that Desktop Manager isn't running when using JL_CMDER. When finished your device should display a 507 error.

5. Open Desktop Manager and run Application Loader. The Desktop Manager should then detect the device (after running Application Loader) and load the new OS.

That should give you a clean, out-of-the-box device. You can then restore your data if desired.

my volume UP key won't work during phone calls, after my .71 upgrade :(

I'm going to wipe the phone and re-install the OS, hope it works.

Did you try just removing the battery first?

How did you do that? I moved all my ringtones and wallpapers onto the media card and with Berry 411, Mig33, Phantom Theme, Today Plus theme, Sudoku and Texas Hold 'Em the only additional items on my BlackBerry I have less tha 15MB of space left. I'd love to free up more memory and have a zippier pearl. I'd appreciate any info you could provide me with.

I sure did John, did not work.

I just reinstalled the OS, and it's still not working. I'm going to try to downgrade to .67, and hopefully it works. Last resort, is exchange for a new pearl :(

Not sure if it's an OS problem, or just a coincidence. But it sucks.

When you do that try a complete wipe and use jl_comandr and then instal the OS.

Tried it too, didn't work.

Got a new Pearl few hours ago. I'm sure it was just coincidence, don't believe it was part of the OS upgrade. Either way, I'm gonna leave the .64 pre-installed OS for a while LOL

Rogers Wireless in Canada will have their OS update in the very near future. I'm curious now if it will be the same as the .71 OS or newer.

I'm a little confused about this... when I go to the link, select BlackBerry Pearl (8100c), and click next, it doesn't give me a download link. I then selected BlackBerry Desktop Manager 4.2, click next, then it gives me two links.

I want to download "BlackBerry Desktop Manager v4.2 b18 (Multilanguage)," right? Is there any need to download anything else?

Also, will all my apps and wallpapers that are saved to the device memory still be there after I upgrade the OS?

Sorry for such basic questions but I'm a noob when it comes to firmware flashing and whatnot

I'm having problems downloading the firmware, think they might have removed it from the site.

Not getting any options after choosing 8100 from the list.

Seems to be working now.

I was selecting the 8100 from the list and clicking next.

When i was trying earlier the 8100 option had some strange symbols between the words instead of spaces. Looks OK now.

Thanks
