Default Any way to disable the Lock Key?

Please Login to Remove!

I just traded in my 8830 World Phone new 9630 at Verizon today and I must say I'm loving it so far. That being said, I've one minor complaint that I'm hoping someone here can help me figure out...

Is there any way to prevent the Lock Key on the upper left corner of the device from unlocking the phone? I can't tell you how many times in the past couple of hours that my 9630 has unlocked itself whilst in my pocket simply because the Lock Key was accidentally pressed. The two key stroke unlock of "* + Call Send" was MUCH more practical as it prevented unwanted unlocking. Easily locking the device via its own dedicated button is a great addition, but being able to unlock it just as easily is downright illogical...

Thanks in advance for the help, everyone!

If you want to lock your phone whilst in your pocket use the RIGHT HAND key at the top of the device. It is a STANDBY key.

I've tried that and sadly, it's just as easy to accidentally press the Mute/Standby Key, thereby making the BB active again, as it is to accidentally unlock the phone with the Lock Key.

At this point, I'm considering buying a hard plastic case for the thing, hoping the added plastic on the top of the phone will create enough of a recess that neither the Mute nor the Lock Key can be pressed.

I really wish the techies at BB had given this a bit more thought.

Any other ideas, anyone?

Wirelessly posted

Sure.

Put a short password on the device. That is what I have on mine.

I have never had my BB turn on when in my pocket whilst in standby mode. I take it with me when I do a 2 mile brisk walk every morning too.

I suspect riding a motorcycle is very different than a 2 mile brisk walk... ;)

If you are riding your motorcycle with your BB in your pocket I assume 1) you cannot hear it ring and 2) you would not use it anyway until you came to a stop, so why not just turn off the power?

1) I keep it on vibrate when I'm on the bike so I can tell when a new message is coming in. It's an OCD thing...
2) I like to keep it on for GPS purposes as I've been known, on many occasion, to pull it out of my pocket while at stop lights to make sure I'm not getting lost on my way to my destination.
3) I've been a BB user for quite some time and I suppose I'm simply stuck in my ways. Old habits are hard to break, especially when they've served you well for a long time.

I suppose I'll give in and adopt Joe1004's suggestion of enabling my password, but it'd sure be nice if RIM gave us the option of disabling the unlock function from the Lock Key...
