In case people have been missing my posts, I work for T-Mobile...as a representative, am knowledgable, and have been using the 8100 . I've heard nothing about the 6th. September 12th and 18th are what we are scheduled for existing customer pre-orders and new customer availability. Nothing is 100% though. Like I said in another post, this is the first phone T-Mobile has been extremely hardcore on me about its release...

I'm gonna switch to TMobile to get the Pearl... should I just wait till release or can I go in early and preorder it?

I get to test it a little bit myself. It's a pretty sleek phone, a nice powerful e-messanger that is the blackberry, but it's all small and sexy... and no trackwheel! score!

You cannot pre-order. Your first opportunity to purchase will be the release date.

How easy or difficult do you think it will be for me to get one from the US to the UK? I would very much like to get one unlocked for use on O2 in the UK, but it doesn't sound like it is easy to purchase them sim-free. If anyone can help by either letting me know where I can get one sim-free, or advising me how I can get a TMob without a contract and unlocked when they are released, I would be very grateful. I don't mind paying a premium to get a sim-free handset, and I don't want to wait 2-3 months for the 8100 to be released in the UK.

Cheers!

You cannot buy RIM devices SIM free normally, so your best option is to come to the US, buy one from a T-Mobile store for $400, have Adam at GSMPhoneSource.com unlock it for $45, and head home.

All I can say is it won't be cheap to have the coolest BB in the UK.

I will break the larger of my two piggy banks then....

So - do you mean for $400 I can buy one from a Tmob store without a contract? That would be great (assuming I can buy one from UK without having to head to the US!). $445 for an unlocked BB (especially the latest and greatest) is not particularly expensive when you consider what the exchange rate is at the moment.....
It's the contract that gives me concern - I can't take out a US phone contract and usually with new and desireable products in the UK, the sellers will only sell them on a contract as their profit comes from the new sign up and not the handset cost. If I can buy it without a contract, then I'm sorted (provided I can source one).

Yes, the no contract price will be approximately $400. Unfortunately, US service providers do not remove the SIM lock if you purchase the phone at the retail price, hence the reason you will have to pay Adam (he does it remotely, and usually gets the subsidy codes for new RIM devices shortly after their release).

Your real difficulty will be sourcing the device. If you want to trust someone on this forum, you could probably paypal them money to buy the 8100 at a store and ship it to you.

Brilliant. Thanks for the tip about Adam also - didn't realise that BBs could be remotely unlocked.

Now to find my source.......

It's kind of unfortunate that this Canadian product releases for US Market before Canada.

You'll get over it.

US companies often release items internationally before they do in the US.

Has anyone heard if the 8700 or other models will be going down in price with this new release?

Question Purchase on 12 Sep?

Is the understanding (particularly of those of you in-the-know) that product will be able to be purchased and taken home on Sep. 12? Or is that only the announcement date, with actual sales to commence some time later?
