Hi,
I wonder if someone could plase help me or point me in the right direction.
I, like many, have just purchased an old vodafone UK 7230 from Ebay. I realise that without a BB data plan I am unable to use the Blackberry browser to browse the Internet.
I have placed a Vodafone UK registerd SIM card into the phone and it works fine and is GRPS enabled, as I get GPRS displayed above the signal strength - calls obviously work OK as well.
As the Blackberry browser does not allow Internet access via GRPS (if I am correct) I downloaded Opera Mini to the 7230 and setup the TCP options as APN = pp.vodafone.co.uk with a password and username of wap and wap respectively. I read an article that detailed how someone got Internet access working via a GRPS enabled SIM card on T-Mobile UK using this method.
I have downloaded a blank (I think) security policy to the 7230, as detailed in this link
Unlocking the Blackberry
This seems to have worked ok, as I can now set no passwords on the phone and the security menu does not mention an IT security policy, which it did before.
However the issue that I am having now is that when the Opera Mini software tries to access the intenet I get a message saying :-
The application operette $2dhifi has attempted to open a connection to locations inside the firewall and outside of the firewall which is not allowed by your IT policy.
So it seems that even though I though I had sent a blank IT policy to the 7230 that there is stiil come configuration settings stopping the device form access the Internet. Maybe I am getting confused between setting up a blank security policy and an IT policy??
I have done a search and found a lot of related articles with regard to firewalls and security polocies and yet I still can not get Internet access working on the device. I really just want to see what GPRS internet access is like (i.e. speed wise and usability wise) on the device.
Any help / pointers would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Andrew
