Question Application Log Error and Warning Messages (BB)

Please Login to Remove!

I have a ton of warning messages in the Application Log of the server running BES (4.0). We're running Domino Server R6.5. There are at least 50 of these dated today (tag number is different each on each warning):

Event Type: Warning
Event Source: BlackBerry Dispatcher CN=NEWBES/O=MATRIX
Event Category: None
Event ID: 20209
Date: 8/16/2005
Time: 11:06:16 AM
User: N/A
Computer: NEWBES
Description:
{Brandt, Bob} DecryptDecompress() failed, Tag=45006

Then there are a handful of these error messages:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: BlackBerry Messaging Agent NEWBES
Event Category: None
Event ID: 10402
Date: 8/15/2005
Time: 10:21:09 AM
User: N/A
Computer: NEWBES
Description:
Error opening mail message with refid 2641844431 for Sharon Sacks/MATRIX (Document has been deleted 0x0225)

And these:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: BlackBerry Messaging Agent NEWBES
Event Category: None
Event ID: 10404
Date: 8/15/2005
Time: 10:21:19 AM
User: N/A
Computer: NEWBES
Description:
Cannot open original message 3872148852 for user Sharon Sacks/MATRIX (Document has been deleted 0x0225)

Does anyone know what these errors and warnings mean? These last 2 really concern me because Sharon is our CEO.

TIA for any/all replies!

It sounds like the Messaging Agent is trying to retrieve a message for the handheld that doesn't exist in the account any more. -> "Document has been deleted".

The only reference I could find for it was:
"This warning message indicates that the original message could not be found in user's
mail file. This might be because the user deleted the message before it could be
forwarded to the handheld."

Are you running BES 2.1/2.2 for Domino?

No idea with the first one. It's not often that the Dispatcher will fail to Decrypt/Decompress.

Reboot?

No, we're running BES 4.0 - turns out that the warning message meant that Bob needed to generate a new encryption key. We've quit BES and restarted Domino Server a few times since my original post. Still not sure about the 2 error messages I posted......

Hehehe, didn't notice the "BES (4.0)" in your original post.

Try checking those RefID's 2641844431 and 3872148852 in the Messaging Agent logs.

To quote Jibi: http://www.blackberryforums.com/arch...hp/t-4942.html

For every email that is sent to/from the handheld, it has an associated RefID. These RefID's can be tracked in the MAGT log file. To find out what a particular message's RefID is, you can open the message, then push ALT+VIEW (type out V-I-E-W; on a 7100 handset, use multi-tap typing for the word).

Hope this helps!

I started receiving the first error you mentioned today. RIM told me it was because we put a monthly Microsoft Update on our Exchange Server and it "Goofed up the Encryption on your user's account."

I had to have the 15 users who were affected, go to Options > Security Options > General Settings > Services: Desktop [S123456], click on Desktop and Regenerate Encryption Key.

So far, it has worked on 8/8 of my users. I first knew there was an issue when they started calling in telling me they couldn't send email. After this regeneration, they can now send.

DecryptDecompress() failed Tag=<value>

This message will occur when the user’s encryption key has expired and needs to be regenerated.

On the users device go to OPTIONS > SECURITY (Also GENERAL SETTINGS on new devices).

Scroll down to the "Services" area and highlight "BlackBerry [sXXXXXXXXX] (3DES)", press the track wheel and select "Regenerate Encryption Key"

Does anyone know what could cause these encryption keys to expire? And why only a handful of users would expire and not all?
