Default Got 8310's + 8800's, want GPS loaded onto SD card

Please Login to Remove!

Hi guys,
I was just wondering if anyone knows which mapping software might be a good place to start for my needs - as i have been reading the threads on both this site and another, and still cant decide...

Basically, our data plan limits us to 50mb per month, any more is a ridiculous £0.75p per kb (I think). So we even disable internet usage unless users sign a form to agree that their department will pay any additional costs.

We have had 8800's in for ages, but never had the chance to play with the gps.

Now i have been testing a couple of 8310's for a few days and am keen to have a play with the mapping software.

due to the limited data plans, we obviously cant realistically use any software that downloads the maps, so i am wondering if there is any good software which i can buy once, for a 1 off fee, download the maps to the SD card, and run as standalone - ie, maps on memory card, using the internal GPS reciever?

My manager said he will be happy to pay a 1 off fee, but isnt keen on any subscription services.

Anyone use anything like this?

Cheers!

The only solutions for GPS mapping right now are all dependent on data.

I download a lot of software and use my GPS regularly. I've never been close to 50Mb. I don't think it will be an issue.

Just SCROLL around with BBmap, it will save the map to the cache and when you go back to that same spot, it will pull from the cache instead of using data.

I live in Hawaii, island of oahu, and I cache the whole island at all zoom level, and my cache size is 476.8kB, I prove that it will work by pulling out the sim card(no data connection), and my 8800 is working just like a stand alone GPS.

There is already a Garmin product, but that requires a data plan. I wonder how much pressure the service providers pile on the software vendors to ensure that a data plan is required.

There is no BB product purely on an SD card.

I am going to pick up Wayfinder soon myself. Lifetime license is $99, but it is transferable between devices, so if I move from say a blackberry to a nokia or something, i can reactivate on the new phone with my same license.

It also supports all the data being stored on SD card, and route/trip planning online. For $99 flat fee lifetime license on major versions, it seems like the best bet.

The OTA systems are "ok" but a real gps system shouldnt have to rely on a data plan to map for me.
