Default Cactus - BB/Web GPS Locator Service - Test and Win iPod!

Please Login to Remove!

Friendly BB Forum Folks,

You may remember our announcement from last time - we're working with a company testing a BlackBerry/Web based GPS locator service that integrates Google Maps. It is called Cactus - Cactus - Locate Friends and Family Anywhere, Anytime.

We had a successful first test (thanks!) and they want to have a larger test with up to 100 people. This time around, they are offering an iPod as a prize for the 'most active' beta tester. Which iPod? Well, sounds like Apple will have new ones tomorrow and if so, whatever the top of the line model is. If no new iPods tomorrow then I guess the high end current video iPod. They want to reward folks for testing and encourage use.

The system works on BlackBerry 88xx series devices with built in GPS (I guess Verizon folks can't play - sorry).

Want to be a part of the test? Email us: [email address]

Be sure to include your name, email address, BlackBerry model and carrier. US users only at this time, thanks.

If you tested the first time and want to do it again, please send another email. You have to sign up for this second test to be eligible to win the prize.

Thanks,
Cactus

PS - We're still looking for testers! Drop us a line to join up!

As an update, since Apple has now introduced new iPods, the prize will be an Apple Store gift card in the amount of $440, which should let the winner purchase any iPod (or even iPhone but the service would not be covered) they like.

Hello,

If you don't already have a case open, please use the support links included on the Web site to create one - this is the point of the test - to iron out problems. We will be posting new builds of the software based on user feedback.

I don't think Verizon works for this stuff - I was told they disabled the GPS unit, no?

The internal is disabled but I hear you can attach a puck and it'll work fine.

Same here. I get a fix (long + lat) on my phone. but the program (online/web) doesn't see it. Then I get an error and the program crashes (uncaught excpetion).

Yes, I'm using a puck with the 8300... looks like a great program, close to working, but no quite.

Guys,

We're very glad you're being a part of the beta - thanks!

To get credit for your testing time, please send these responses through the tech support system on the Web site - that's how we're tracking stuff for the prize (and how we're sure it gets to the engineers to get the bugs fixed!)

Thanks again - we want you to be rewarded for your work!

Hunter

This is an awesome program, except it always crashes. For my new work, I need to leave my BB in my car. Low and behold if the car is ever stolen, automatic tracker, or if you have WORKING internal (ahem vzw) GPS you could track a stolen BB. Gotta get this working!

Did this program ever go anywhere? I would love to have the ability to see friends GPS locations displayed in google maps.
