BB Maps with POI

Any word on when the POI will be available in BB Maps. I think the app is great for what it does and when they include POIs, it will be perfect for a free app.
Thx

I have my doubts that it will ever be out. I think they made it too encourage others to provide a service for a fee. They may run into trouble soon since the manual for the 8800 has the features and they did not include them.

Ok got it DL'd. I conclude it is not the version referenced in the 8800 manual in that it doesn't have the following: Search, Switch View and Clear Cache from the menu options. These are discussed in the manual. And yes it works fine on ATT/Cingular even though you are warned that it does not.

Also I forward directions to my gmail account, and when I click the link, it comes to a web page with a cool globe, but doesn't show the map of the directions. Things still aren't working right.

yes, bb map works on my 8700.
Telenav is not free, at least not forever. Trial period is 30days. It is not bad, but I also read that wayfinder is also good, and it is 1-time fee of $90, instead of 9.99/month that Telenav charge. Telenav do have pretty OK POI, but I heard wayfinder lack it.
I am also waiting for google map to have GPS integration, and hopefully voice turnover direction as well... BB map is good, but without voice, it is pretty useless, especially if you have to look at the small screen in Pearl.

Just a quick FYI ... if it wasn't already mentioned.
Yes indeed the ability to send a URL via email of your map location I believe opens up in BBMaps (I only have BBMaps currently) upon retrieval & opening of the link. Very cool how this works really - intuitive.

Tip for Cingular users
I was able to get BBMaps working on a Cingular 8800 folowing the directions posted above. I did this when 1.1.27 was available.
I then saw the link Stingsdog posted that siad - AS OF 3-21-07 YOU CAN DOWNLOAD 1.1.32. I was unable to get OTA install to work as the site still detects that I'm on Cingular and refuses to let me install.
I was able to upgrade to 1.1.32 by visiting [blackberry .com / maps] on IE on my laptop. The script then asks you to plug your BB into the USB port and upgrades.
The bummer is that I didn't see any big difference or new features. :(

I have been using TeleNav since I got my 8800 - its amazing.
Works solid, able to take a call and the directions pop back up as soon as the call is over, easy to search current location for services and gas prices! Pretty much sold the misses on the new phone after the first use.

I have a BB 8800 from Cingular/AT&T. Trying to go to blackberry.com/maps put my BB browser in loops. So, I figured out what the next pages was on my PC and went to that instead. Worked fine. Below is the URL I used on my BB to get to the OTA for the latest maps SW.
http://www.blackberry.com/devicesoft...y.do?code=maps
Seems to work fine. Well, I mean it functions. The BB Maps application seems pretty minimal in the function department. But, it is free, so I can not complain. Like everyone else, I hope Google adds GPS support for the Google Maps for BB.

It was pushed to the T-Mo devices last night... Click on icon from BB and it take you to a T-Mo download area where you agree to terms of service and enter phone # and email address.. After that it brings you to a download area for the free 60-day-trial....
