8700c with BT puck
Please Login to Remove!
After reading Stinsonddog’s Blackberry review, I have desided to purchase a Holux GPSlim236 puck. I am wondering if anyone has tried this with a cingular 8700c and Blackberry maps. Any issues that would prevent it from pairing etc.
Thanks

I believe others here have had success with it. MrKyoo may be one.

I havenxxx8217;t tried the Holux with the 8700 but I have with my Pearl and itxxx8217;s great. I was amazed as too how small the Holux was. Ixxx8217;ve used it with BBMaps, Telenav and paired it with my laptop via bluetooth.

I just got my Holux GPSlim240 (very nice and a little smaller than the 236) and it works great with BB Maps. I've tested it while walking and driving. It took a trip to BB Forums to find out about BB Maps. I tried Spot and that did not work worth a dam. And, anything else I looked at would have cost me bucko bucks.
Anyway, enjoy your Holux GPS receiver. I like have the SiRF III chip, it is just amazing.

I shopped around and the cheapest seller out there was Cingular (I could not beleive it). yes it is nice and small and has the rubber ring on the bottom and it does not lide at all, I put it on the dash(audi A4) it stays there. Size wise it is small and light and has 11 hours of battery time. One thing, it can not be hooked up by usb it can only be done by BT to anything.
below is a side by side pic of several BT receivers.

So how is it charged? Did it come with a car and home chargers? I just bought a BT dongle at Amazon so I could hook mine up. I have determined that my Wayfinder is not working because one of the apps may have changed the settings and I can't access it unless I can connect it to my PC via BT.

yes it comes with both home charger and the car lighter adapter. both share the same USB mini cord (just like the BB). You can also use the PC USB to Mini to charge it while using it and that is the extent of it when conected to a PC (charge only).

Ok so now it looks like the GlobalSat BT-359 Bluetooth GPS Receiver is available without having to wait for it to be shipped at Cingular so tomorrow I will go to the store and get one.
Thanks for all the info folks

Looking vs the metric. The 359 is about half an inch longer (but it is realy width) at 3.3 inches vs. 2.7 inches. The high is about 1/2 inch vs Hlox of 1.5 inches and the depth is 2-5/8th of an inch vs. 2-7/8th for the Holox.
for test review look here.

I searched, but couldn't find anything on this. I think I know the answer, but if you're using a BT GPS puck, is there any way to use a BT headset at the same time?

Thanks, that's what I thought. Guess I'll just continue waiting for the next generation with hopefully built-in GPS. THE single most compelling time to use the BT headset - in the car so as to be handsfree - becomes THE time you can never use it, because that's exactly when you're trying to navigate, of course! :sigh:
