I haven't been able to try yet, but can the BlackBerry be connected through bluetooth to a laptop and have either program work?

The streamer, I cant get anything to show up as of yet, but the screenshot program is amazing. Thank you very very much.

As I stated below, the communication with the BlackBerry is done by the javaloader.exe. My tools only pick up and work on the bmp files. Therefor I cannot understand why one program would work and the other one doesn't.

As far as I know screenshots cannot be taken over a BlueTooth connection because the data service is not provided by the BlackBerry. I have heard it might be possible to enable it when fumbling around with the BES policies, but I never was able to try that. Maybe OS 4.2 will allow it. Someone with a Pearl could try that, I still don't have one. :(

Yah, I believe only Sync can be done over bluetooth, so it is likely other data transfer with javaloader isn't possible straight out of the box. I will buy a BT dongle and try. I am thinking when I am doing bb training sessions, it would be amazing to be able to stand back with my bb and have streamer do the actions on the overhead.

Yah I am not sure whats going on with Streamer, i just get a black screen, when I press play, it asks for my BB password, I dont have one so I just press ok. I tried adding a pw to my bb then entering it on the streamer but still, just a black screen. I tried recording, it created the file, but of a black screen. I plugged my 8700 in to see if that made a diff, and again, nothing but a black screen.

but screenshot works just fine.

Ok, we might better discuss that further via email. Currently reviewing the code, but can't find the possible cause.
Could you do the following:
- see where your TMP environment variable points to. (something like: C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp)
- in this path you shout find a temporary bmp file named: ~bbss.bmp
- what OS are you using on your PC?
- are you running the tool from a network drive or a local drive?
- do you have write permisson in the folder where you run the program?

Michael

edit: resolved as stated in MobileRC's reply

The older javaloader.exe from 2004 (file size 86.016 bytes) writes a bmp header that my programs cannot read. The screenshooter has a correction built-in, the screenstream not.
Therefor better use the newer versions of javaloader from 2005 (came with JDE 4.1, file size 94.208 bytes) or from 2006 (came with JDE 4.2, file size 98.304 bytes)
I have the impression that the newest version runs smoother anyway.

Hi folks,

from the hit counter on my web page I see that many people have downloaded the tools. But I get almost zero feedback. Are these tools so good that you have no problems or are they so bad that you have deleted them right away? No bugs? No suggestions?

Many thanks to those who gave feedback and pointed me at "possible improvements"

Just wondering....

If I try to use a BB that does NOT have a password associated with it ScreenStream works fine. When I use my BB WITH a password I cannot get ScreenStream to accept my password. It keeps telling me incorrect password.

@bnandreu

Thanks for the reply. I use as well a BB with password and it works for me and others. To solve this, my questions are:
- what version of BBScreenStream do you use?
- what version of Javaloader do you use? (the 84k version is too old, the 94k version is ok)

1. BBScreenStream is .71
2. Javaloader is the 92k - 9/25/05

While testing @bnandreu's issue, I found some others:

BBScreenStream 0.71
- passwords with blanks in it don't work
- path names with blanks in it don't work
- blank passwords give a password pop-up after each start/stop

BBScreenShooter 1.32
- passwords with blanks in it don't work
- little graphics error in the sort radio buttons in the viewer

These issues will be resolved in 0.72 and 1.33 and later.
Any more issues before I release them?

However bnandreu's problem is not yet resolved. Anybody else has the same problem? I cannot duplicate it.

Both applications work great for me, I don't have any complaints.

One thing is I tried to use streamer for a presentation and while it worked, it was very laggy and I understand there is not much you can do about it, but is there a way for it to not take screenshots while streaming unless I choose to do so? That could potentially make it a bit smoother.

Thanks @MobileRC.
There is the pause button. You can always stop it. (Not sure if I understood what you meant)
Or do you think of an single-step mode, so it only retrieves/shows the next picture when you press a button (without showing the [Pause] text)?

Well from what I understand everytime the light blips that means it has or is taking a screenshot during the stream, is there a way to have that off so it doesnt take screenshots unless I choose it to?

edit:

****obsolete, read my next post****

There a 2 possible new behaviors:

1) while the tool is running you press [Pause]. The orange LED stays on and the [Pause] text gets displayed for 1 second. Recording is paused as well.
Now if you press the [S] key for "step", just one shot is done and displayed and recorded if rec is on.

2) while the tool is running you press [Pause]. The orange LED stays on and the [Pause] text gets displayed for 1 second. Recording is not stopped and still records the same picture every second.
Now if you press the [S] key for "step", just one shot is done and displayed and recorded if rec is on.

I could as well put the "step" functionality on the [space] key and map [pause] to another key or make use of ctrl or alt keys.

The first possible new behavior is already implemented in the next build.
It depends on the replies in the forum what I while release or not.

edit:
just thought about option 3:
Same like option 1, but as well the [R] key to record the current picture again while in [Pause] mode.

example:
-you start the stream and record, and press [Pause]
-then you navigate on the BB just to where you want and press [S]
-the BB display is captured and recorded
-now you press [R] as often as you like. Each time the current picture is once more added to the avi.

I could not resist...
New versions for both tools are uploaded.
Check the integrated help for info.
Update your existing versions with the built-in update feature.

BBScreenShooter:
- 1.33, passwords with blanks now work

BBScreenStream
- 0.80
Fixed a compatibility issue with older versions of javaloader and some BB models or OS versions (hopefully)
(the corrections costs performance, use the latest javaloader and OS to gain speed - the tool automatically switches to the fast method when possible)
Fixed problems with blanks in passwords and in path names
No more password screen pop-up when using a device with no password set after each play/stop.

New features:
- a double click on the screen picture works like the [play/stop] button - just for convenience.
-while in pause mode:
--pressing the [S] key or single left-click on the screen picture will do just on more screen capture. This takes load from your device while presenting. You can only show the screens you want to. This works as well while recording.
--pressing the [R] key will just add the current screen once more to the avi file while recording without taking a new picture. Since the playback of the videos is fixed to one picture per second, this gives the ability to show a screen as many seconds longer as times you pressed the R key.

Hopefully I have not added too many bugs....

Michael
