I suspect they're holding up the release to conicide with the release of their financials for Q2 tomorrow. It'll be ready by tomorrow or the end of the week at the latest.

SMS messages can be sent and received on any Blackberry except the Mobitex (eg: 957) or the iDEN models (eg: 7520).

PIN messages can be sent or received on any RIM device without additional software.

There is software that turns PIN messsaging into more of an instant chat experience http://www.blackberry.com/messenger.

i think that'd make sense, but only if they didn't already put it on the homepage and have press releases by partner carriers concerning the release and availability of the application. it just seems like two parts of the pie were thinking different things. my guess is that the marketing and product development departments were under different impressions than the the application development and support groups. just my opinion. thats typically how this crap happens.

The news release with the download link was also posted on the Rogers Wireless internal newsletter.

Did anyone manage to get the download before they took the link down?

No. Check back tomorrow. The link has been widely distributed by Rogers Wireless and other channels. My thinking is a miscommunication occurred between RIM and the carriers. It should be ready for tomorrow to coincide with the release of RIM's Q2 financials....

The link works now, but I get an unspecified error when I try to download it.

It will only work with Rogers Wireless blackberries, and Nextel. It appears to load it directly to the device, and won't do so unless it is one of the supported devices.

Create an email to your device and include the link to http://www.blackberry.com/YahooDownload (case-sensitive). From your device, check your email and click on the link. Proceed to download over-the-air.

however, it appears they have added a bit of security...

Quote:
* Device support for Nextel(R): BlackBerry 7510(TM), device software v4.0.2 and BlackBerry 7520(TM), device software v4.0.0 are supported. We recommend you upgrade to the latest device software v4.0.0 for the BlackBerry 7520.

* Device support for Rogers: BlackBerry 6710(TM) with 16MB of memory, device software v3.6; BlackBerry 6280(TM), BlackBerry 7280(TM) and BlackBerry 7780(TM), device software v3.7; and BlackBerry 7100r(TM), device software v4.0 are supported. To install on devices with device software prior to v4.0, you must do so from the BlackBerry Browser on your device or from Microsoft(R) Internet Explorer on your PC. Support for installation via the Internet browser on BlackBerry devices for device software v3.7.1 or higher is expected soon.
let me see if i can grab it off...

Default Compatible Devices

Do I take it to mean that this will not work with a 7230 with T-Mobile???

I didn't see mine listed as a compatible device.

Further to above, if you attempt to download it from your blackberry, it will warn you if your device is not yet supported. This sucks...

well that makes sense thanks, however it am getting a device not supported error. I have a nextel 7520 with 4.0.2.37 software and it says that is supported, unless I am reading it wrong and the 7520 with 4.0 is only supported. Anyone know?

Can some others from Rogers or Nextel with a supported device right quick? Try it locally (you will need Desktop Manager installed, FYI) and via the BlackBerry browser (OTA).

Thanks.

If they upgraded their AXLoader to support Vendor and Device codes, then thats kind of interesting...
