Default IMAP Idle (push) for BIS Again?

Please Login to Remove!

I use BIS with my work IMAP account. Verizon is the carrier.
This morning I have been receiving my e-mails almost immediately, without the normal 15 minute polling. My e-mail server is showing a persistent IMAP connection from a RIM IP, idling when no mail is avaialble. I have not seen this for our Blackberries that are on T-Mobile.
Has anyone else noticed this? Is RIM trying out IMAP idle again?

I'm on t-mobile (uk) and every now and then I try out my gmail IMAP account.
I have also discovered that I am getting the mails immediately and if I delete them they are removed from my gmail account immediately.

So it's looking good so far ;)

This is normal for gmail. My gmail account has been working this way since I established it.
My work e-mail is, however, not a Google App domain. We maintain our own server. IMAP idle still working for my account, but the other 5 Blackberries that use our server have not seen a persistent connection.
It looks like others have not yet noticed this change.

I also setup one of my gmail accounts via IMAP on Verizon and don't see the push working.

It looks like RIM is rolling the IMAP idle capability out slowly. One of our t-mobile Blackberry BIS accounts has established a persistent connection to our server using IMAP idle. We are not on Google or Google apps. This is an independent domain on our own mail server. Our server supports IMAP idle and the 2 Blackberries with persistent connections have seen e-mail being pushed to them immediately.

Confirmed with two of my servers. Imap idle is indeed working on VZW BIS. W00T!

Question if this is working would it be better to set up Gmail via Imap.

Gmail does not need IMAP to get push. It does it automatically once you add it to BIS.

I added one of my fastmail.fm addresses to the BIS via IMAP. Verified push email delivery and read/unread status from BB to fastmail.fm mailbox. However fastmail.fm inbox read/unread and deletes do not update on the BB. Anyone else see this?

Be aware that with Gmail, deleting "on mailbox and handheld" works differently when using IMAP than it does with POP3. When using POP3 it will actually delete the message (move it to the Trash in Gmail), but when using IMAP the messages will be archived instead of deleted.

It will show up in Gmail with a label called "Sent Items."

I just reset up IMAP on my Gmail account w/Tmo BIS and it is working beautifully. Only thing that is bothering me, is now when I send a message it is not showing up on gmail. Only in the outbox of my phone. Anyone have any ideas? I would really like to keep IMAP cause I like the Read Syncs and the delete = archive functions.

Did you go into advance settings and make sure your settings are on Port 993.
