I really like the layout changes in 2.2.0 and the colors in the menu and overall it works much quicker than 2.1.0 did.

btw - I prefered to see Google Maps discussion in the GPS section of the site, not sure why threads there would refer to here? Why bother with a GPS section at all, since everything there is aftermarket.
GPS didn't work for GMM 2.1 with my 8330 on Bell, but it's working with 2.2!

I love that in this version, after I upgraded I still have my past searches/locations. In the past these have been wiped out. Overall it seems faster, the application and the intial gps reaction. 8310 4.2.2.170

Happy to correct my earlier post! On my Telus Mobility 8330, I can now see my location to 10m!! This is the first time I've seen GPS work on this handset, its also working in Blackberry Maps - no other programs or OS upgrades have been installed.

Will test it out tomorrow and see if its as quick and responsive as it used to be on the 8830.

Default VZW 8330 GPS unlocked now?

I just downloaded Google Maps 2.2.0 on my VZW 8330. When I launched it, it asked for permission to use the GPS. I no longer have the big blue circle around my location.

I guess VZW unlocked the GPS on the 8330!

I find this a little hard to believe.

GPS is still locked on all of our 8330s and I don't expect VZW would simply unlock it for Google Maps on a whim.
Stranger things have happened, but I'm always the skeptic.

You're not running VZnavigator in the background are you?

Nope, VZW is not running in the background. But, maybe they unlock the GPS if you have the VZnavigator service, which I do.

I've already misjudged one thread this week, so I'm not about to dismiss this and do the same thing again.

Hopefully more people can confirm your claim, as this would make some people very happy.

I'd like to see address lookup from Calendar location! I seem to remember seeing that option for either Google Maps or BB Maps but neither have it now.

Default gps is lost in gmaps 2.2

I don't know where everyone is seeing the option to ask permission to use GPS. I have a 8310 and got the notification today to update my gmaps. Sure.....installed and required a reboot. Great. When it first restarted my gtalk and y-messenger didn't work. Hard reboot, pulled the battery. Then gmail didn't work. Pulled the battery. They all work now, gmaps works but now my gps doesn't register and it's only tracking by cell towers. 2400m. WTF? I used to be able to get with in 3m.

any suggestions anyone? Aside from the generic mine works great or mine doesnt?

Thanks in advance.

I'm on the same network as you. Do you find that BB Maps takes awhile to find the satellites, when you just turn your GPS on?

Playing around with this more today, I cannot get Google Maps to work with GPS consistently unless I start BB Maps and select "Start GPS Navigation". It takes close to a minute to find the satellites and then Google Maps narrows My Locations down to 10 or 20m instead of 1500m+

Yes, but this is a major step forward for me because it has never worked before - and I've made numerous calls and spent way too many time on it.

Solution to my previous post. I deleted 2.2 and reinstalled 2.1 Then deleted 2.1 completely. Hard reset, pulled the battery. I then installed gmaps 2.1 and I remembered that I ran into this before. On my 8310 for gmaps to use the gps I have to launch gmaps. Then switch over to options, advanced, gps, refresh gps. Once it's locked on to the sat's. Go back to gmap and bingo. The gps is now active again up to 3m.

I then reinstalled gmaps v2.2. Soft reset. Launced gmaps, closest range was 2400m. Again refreshed my gps. Back to gmaps active and the gps is active up to 3m. Every time I launch gmaps the gps works now.

Hope this helps others out there.

I will give this a try and see if it works for me. Keep you all posted.
