GUIDE: Telus/Bell - Google Maps working with BB 8130 Internal GPS (tested)
Please Login to Remove!
Only 88xx series GMM will work with the internal GPS. I think Google engineers still did not clue in that the 8130 series Pearl has an internal GPS. Therefore, you will need to download the 8830 version of GMM from here http://www.google.com/gmm/apps/v1.6....30_v4_2_L1.jad (must use your phone to download OTA)
By the way, anyone have the JAD link for 8830 but version 2.0.1? I need a JAD link to version 2.0.1 for 8830, not some generic 2.0.1 MIDP 2 version that was posted in the sticky. No generic versions work as they throw an exception at startup.
Edit: For VZW users, you can try downloading the version of GMM posted above (again, download OTA), go outside, and start the app to see if you will get a single blue dot on the screen. You may need to wait a min or two, or restart the phone before trying. Use 0 in the app to go to your location. If however, this does not work for some reason, you guys do know that even if (and I am emphasizing a big "if" here) there is a way to disable (restrict the use to TeleNav or GPS Nav only) your internal GPS, that is done through software, and not hardware. So what this means is that you can install a non VZW version of the BB OS on your 8130 (e.g., Telus, see http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...-released.html) and you should have no problem using your GPS.
Try it, I am quite certain that one of the two options will work for you VZW users
Now, again, anyone got the JAD link to 2.0.1 for BB 8830?

Sorry, but the Sprint 8130 does work with its built-in GPS and GMM, very nicely.
Also, my 8310 on AT&T works nicely with GMMm and it has built-in GPS.
I don't know why you saying "Only 88xx series GMM will work with the internal GPS." It's been working.

Well, there are a lot of us reporting that it does not so maybe this is not for you. Also, are you sure you are using GPS and not tower triangulation? Do you have a single blinking blue dot that follows you around nicely when you walk with your Sprint 8130 or do you have a blue dot with a circle around it?
I know that Bell and Telus users in Canada will have the problem I mentioned.
Also, this is pertinent to CDMA phones only, not GSM, so ATT does not count.

Yes, I am using GPS, I do know the difference. Blue dot, not blue circle.
And last i checked, Sprint was CDMA, not GSM.
Simply, my point is that your statement is not correct for all users and the post does not designate, and could be misleading or confusing for any other carrier's user. For it not to work for a few users on Telus and Bell does not mean it doesn't work for everyone.
Anyway, thanks for posting some tips for those users who do encounter the issue.

I do not think that there is so "few" of them, especially considering that they are the ONLY CDMA providers in Canada.
Your posting style is a little on the rough side, comes of like flaming. Thanks for correcting the posting title...I guess...
I am pretty confident that there are other 8130 users out there with the same problem. So far you are the only person that has reported an 8130 with a true working GPS, and that is on Sprint, with the newest OS 4.3.0.70, which nobody else has.
AFAIK, Bell, Telus, and VZW are all reporting the same issues.

MY 8130 works FINE with the built in GPS. Both Google Maps and Sprint Navigation (TeleNav).
No issues. Yes, I do see the cell tower triangulation when I am inside a building, but when I'm outside the GPS takes over.

Google Maps installed on my 8130 on Bell Mobility's network does not recognize the internal GPS. The GPS works fine in other GPS enabled apps (GPS Nav, BlackBerry Maps) but, in Google Maps, I'm still getting cell-tower triangulation when outdoors.

dejanah, I simply intended to point out that what I have repeated a couple times already--to correct your first post--that GMM does work on built-in gps devices other than the 88xx series. I am not flaming you, but I certainly am correcting the misinformation from the first post.
I appreciate your contribution as it applies to those who have this issue.

Sprint
@markhutchison - try the above solution, it will work.
@JSanders - I really thought that the title was clear that this pertained to the 8130, not 8310, 8830, etc. I guess it was not clear enough.
@foner - useless post. Please either contribute to the discussion, or do not post.

the problem with using the 88xx version with an 8130, is that you can't zoom in at all b/c the Pearls don't have the qwerty keyboard!
I have the Sprint 8130 and have not been able to get gmaps 2.0 to use the gps. I tried the 88xx version from the link in the first post, and it looks like it uses gps b/c gmaps says that the blinking blue dot is correct w/in 20 meters...but it's of now use b/c I can't zoom

GMM 2.0.1 on an 8830 with Telus
Has anyone been able to get 2.0.1 to work on an 8830? I'd been using the prior version fine until I upgraded this weekend and like many others was left with a locked up BB. I've tried reinstalling a couple of times and now it dosen't lockup, it just dosen't do anything. If I go to switch applications, I can see GMM running but there is no way to access it.

Well, seems that GMM 2.0.2 finally works right out of the box. I just got it 2 days ago, and my location uses the stupid triangulation when indoors, but outside the GPS takes over right away

I have the Pearl 8130 with Verizon and am trying to get gmaps to recognize the internal GPS. I installed the non-Verizon BB OS suggested in this post and have gmaps 2.0.2 -- but it still does not recognize the GPS. Help?

You can't.
The internal GPS in the Verizon 8130 is reserved for use with VZnavigator only.
For the bazillionth time... installing a non-Verizon OS on your device will not magically unlock the GPS and allow you to use it with third-party software.
