Default How much for BES 4.1

Please Login to Remove!

We are upgrading from BES 4.0 on Windows 2000 Server and old hardware to BES 4.1 on Windows Server 2003 and shiny new hardware.
Our 3rd party provider have told us that it is no longer possible to get the BES 4.1 software direct from RIM for free and that we instead have to purchase it from the network provider (in our case Vodafone UK) for the princely sum of £850 (approx. 1600 USD).
I am just wandering if this is standard for everyone else or if I am missing a trick somewhere.

BES 4.1 is not a free upgrade from BES 4.0.
It is a paid upgrade, and the price you quoted sounds about right.

I have been told by 2 different Blackberry sales guys that if you purchase the T2 support you can upgrade from 4.0 to 4.1 and then you would have support for a year as well.

Edit, Add: T2 support for my server with 35 CALs is $1500 USD

Unless you have a T support contract.

If you moved your connections across to us I'd give you the upgrade for free, and we could upggrade some of your 7290s and 8700s to newer models which would be of benefit. We're an O2 / VF service provider (i.e. we own the billing relationship) and actually have a clue about 'berries.

drop me a PM if you might be interested...

Mine was an o2 upgrade - not via Bertie, so not free - but half the cost of Vodafone, for the same product.

What's up with that? Vodafone!!! Are you Apple in disguise?*

* It's a joke! Apple aficionados, please don't hunt me down to kill me, I'm a Mac girl (2 x iMac, MacBook, iPhone, iPod) I can still joke at the expensiveness though!)

We certainly didn't get love from any BES products or BES upgrades purchased from a carrier (most seem to want a commitment of 20 new devices/lines, wich we won't do.

I would price both the one-time upgrade fee with Tx1 or Tx2 support fee, then decide which yields the best value. But, yeah, the pricing you quoted seems to be in line.

Our upgrade from O2 was in the region of £4-500 pounds, so yes, £850 is a huge price inflation, unless it's coming with a whole load of extra CALs or something.

There is always the option to purchase upgrades and TSupport directly from RIM. Quotes can be reqested via email at [email address] . (I don't know if they will quote to the UK or not).

sounds like you may have been quoted the price for a new install version of 4.1.

Software upgrade disc to 4.1 is £525 from Voda.

Although go with an SP and you can usually get it free if you connect with them, we'll do an onsite install for free a lot of the time too depending on the deal, SP's tend to be a bit more flexible that way
