Greetings
I am using an internal Instant messaging system that uses the Ip address and Broadcast channel on our intranet. It is called softros Lan Messenger.
There are several of thes out there and for a small network shop they work great.
I am running a BES and can easily access internal websites etc from my Blackberry device.
I understand the Blackberry doesn't have an IP address as such but the server the BES sits on does.
It seems, unless I am missing something that an app on the Server could transfer the messages to and from my blackberry while I would look like a user on the server to the rest of the internal network?
The goal here is to be able to instant message the people at the shop while on the road using the same in house messaging system they are currently using.
Any thoughts
Thanks
Have fun

IT is direct Messaging using the Broadcast Channel of the LAN
Uses the same method as the old NET SEND I Think.
I may have to go to Lotus Sametime but would prefer not to
Thanks

I think this is impossible to deliver messages from the mobile device to a LAN and vice versa without a central IM server.
There is another server-based instant messaging software for business at bopup.com and a client for Blackberry has been announced within the next 2-3 months.
I have discovered th only way to do this is through a "proxy" machine that is on the LAN.
To use the NET SEND method I would need Blackberry to Proxy then Proxy to LAN members and Vice versa. Too much overhead and I would have to write most of it myself as nthing currently exists.
I will instal a same time server and go from there
Thanks again fo all you help and suggestions
Have fun
