Just so you understand, there was nothing you could have done until the service provider was apprised of problem on its end and it corrected the error. Typically the activation is practically instant but it has been known to take hours for some people some times, and carriers state as long as 24hrs. From our perspective when helping people we don't know, it's a better assumption that the service is ok and to first troubleshoot the handset. And that's what we did. When the handset was ruled out, you were advised to get back with the service provider and douible check things on its end.

Noobs are not going to know whether they are in your position or not. Almost all problems can be corrected with a hard reset and resending service books. Going straight to carrier before fiddling with the handset can mean a few hours on the phone or a wasted trip to a store when the problem could have been fixed in five minutes.

Advice to anyone in my position, if you ever come across this problem, do not bother fiddling with your blackberry. Contact 02 and they will fix.
umm... Yes, you did add the "BlackBerry Tariff".
Exactly what was suggested first off.
