There's a little facebook icon with 1 beside it in my notification area even though I just checked my notifications and there's nothing new.

Have you tried a hard reset yet? If not, with the power on, remove the battery for 30 seconds or so.

i have the same problem. damn thing has been there for more than a month. have no clue how to get rid of it. I may end up just reinstalling to see if that helps.

Do you get a facebook notification in your Messages folder?

If so, go into your messages folder, press T to go to the top and then press the Menu Key and select Mark Prior Opened.

it showed up as soon as i installed it...i am currently reinstalling

When you first install, you will receive 2 notifications. "Getting Started" and "The Next Step".

If you don't, in the Facebook app it self go to notifications and scroll to the date there. Menu key and select Mark Prior Opened.

deleted and reinstalled. All is fine now. no more notification at the top.

I had the same issue happen 2 or 3 times now. The only way I was able to resolve it was to delete the app and then reinstall it. It has happened for awhile now!

update:

have not had a problem with the facebook ap. After the reinstall all the notifications work better than ever.
