The BIS upgrade is a RIM server upgrade, not each carrier.

In late June of last year, if I recall correctly, it was the East Asia/Australia/Pacific region got it first, a couple weekends later for Europe/Africa, and a week later for the US.

So, yes, this weekend, the morning of the Sunday, March 22, we should begin seeing BIS 2.6 enabled. There may be server upgrades on Saturday morning as well.

HOT! New BIS 2.6 features released by RIM; expect rollout soon | BlackBerryNews.com

That is what I understand... can't hurt to delete the presently on your BB before resending, as well.

Am I getting rid of my g-mail filter setting with this upgrade?

We will say goodbye to this link?

From what I heard we have to remove and then re-add our GMail accounts.

A Simple Re-Send Service books won't do it this time.

You are correct but only for gmail or google-hosted account. You should resend any other service books (or remove/add them).

Yes but I have the gmail filter setup now. With BIS 2.6, there will be no special improvement.

Nope nothing special.. Maybe with BIS 2.7 we will get 2 way sync with GMail!!

I honestly never minded the new messages.. I actually have something set to BCC me on every email sent from BB for my Gmail accts.. Just for my peace of mind to make sure it was sent. (And jsut incase the message didn't make it to my sent box)

Hopefully one day we will have yahoo-like integration with GMail.. but I doubt it. It's not like Google to be like another company... I'd be happy with a more complete PIM sync tool .... Or at least with more options (ie. set from device to Gmail, not both).. I don't trust the calendar sync yet..

(I do realize I am asking for A LOT!)

It just that I would expect to see more growth with BIS than what we see so far. I am tired of the 20 min delay with Outlook Web Access if you dont have IMAP

That's true, especially with thier push into the consumer market..

I'm sure they want to a keep a big gap between BIS and BES, so it may be nothing more then smart marketing for them.

I agree with you on the PIM stuff. I like (and trust) their calendar sync but not the contacts. If they could at least provide multiple calendar management from the device that would be a major improvement. When 2.6 is up and running I will switch back to use IMAP. One-way sync with instant push is still better than POP.

Don't quote me on this, but I hear that most carriers will be updating to 2.6 overnight tonight.

I'll be removing and re-adding my GMail account tomorrow morning

Does anyone know if, when I setup my GMail app it will default to IMAP or do I have to manually enter the IMAP settings?

If 2.6 is implemented then just re-setup your gmail account. It should default to IMAP. You'll know it's 2.6 if a) you don't need to set a sent-mail filter, b) 1-way sync works.
