Default Bold vs. Tour?

Please Login to Remove!

I have been waiting for the Tour for a long time. I have the Storm and I am not happy with the touch screen. But I do love the larger screen. Anyway, after dealing with Verizon's landline service problems, we had to rely on our Verizon mobile phones for a week. The service at our house is much worse than we remembered, and seems to have gone downhill over the last few years. AT&T has recently put a new tower nearby and seems to be the better choice. So, now I am rethinking the Tour and would consider the Bold.

Any major differences? The screen resolution is slightly higher on the Tour. The keyboard is bigger on the Bold. But anything under the surface that might be good to know about?

If AT&T coverage is better for you... then definitely go with AT&T.

The Bold also has WiFi, which the Tour does not.

If history repeats with Verizon... the GPS in the Tour will most likely be locked down and not freely usable by all third-party applications.
The AT&T Bold would not have this issue.

The Tour has a better camera.

You can do a side-by-side comparison of specs at blackberry.com

Thanks. I wasn't thinking so much about camera vs wifi. I was thinking about the harder things to quantify like processor speed, network, multitasking, ease of use, etc.

Both VZW and ATT are both decent here so the phone will be the tiebreaker.

The battery life on the Bold is much worse than the Storm and Tour. The Tour battery life is better than the Storm and Curve 8900.

Yes I agree, the camera is better on the Tour. It also seems to be better than the Storm camera but similar to the 8900. The GPS on the Tour is not locked down though. The Tour is more responsive(quicker) than the Storm.

The poor battery life on the Bold was the clincher for me. Otherwise it would be a hands-down winner. I've seen the same issue on >50 Bolds. I'd rather go with a Tour or 8900. YMMV.

I would say go with function - if you cant use your tour in your house where you spend time everyday why buy it? Camera is nicer but its not like you;re a photographer and use the camera all day everyday, bold has wifi and unlocked gps, i would say depending on your uses it is totally up to you

In my opinion the devices are close enough together to make them the same - choose based on the carrier.

This completely contradicts what you said in your original post.

Will the Tour pick up AT&T's 3G frequency or just EDGE?

If not, another advantage of the Bold would be simultaneous voice and data.

Sorry, by "here" I meant the area where we live, not just my house. Work, mall, store, places we go. Some places one is better, other places are better with the other carrier. It was just that we thought Verizon was better everywhere and we realized that it was not. It was much more even than we believed because it appears to be worse around our house. It is probably just that we never had to rely on our mobile phones at home for so long prior to the landline incident.
