I upgraded this past fall to my current 8320, I called today to find out a price if I were to upgrade to an 8900 and the gentleman said it would be $470 with a 2 year extension (and said that it was 500 retail with no contract). So for 2 years I get $70? Thats it? He did tell me about the split payments though (but here in Ga that is available in-store only).

I guess I will try making another call and getting a different CSR, but since no one has responded I guess I am left to my own devices

You just upgraded therefore you are not eligible for best upgrade pricing. You don't qualify for a better price because you only recently upgraded.

From TMO:

Quote:
You qualify for the best upgrade price based on the time since your last upgrade and rate plan qualification:
  • 11 months if you are on a one-year service agreement, or 22 months if you are on a two-year service agreement.
  • A qualified rate plan is $29.99 or greater with a single line, or $49.99 or greater on a shared family plan.

If I were you, I would call and try another CSR...and another...and another if necessary.

Some have been successful in getting the upgrade price much sooner if they request transfer to the Customer Loyalty dept and threaten to discontinue service and go to another carrier. Probably depends on how long you've been with them and how much you spend/month. Some call and ask how to port their number over to ATT because they want a Bold, and they talk you into an 8900 at the better price to keep you on board.

I been with them since before there even was a Tmo here in Georgia (it was Voicestream). I will try again this week and see if I get any farther with them.

I suggest that you talk and be transfered to the Retention Department(Customer Loyalty) and tell them you want to upgrade your phone and will cancel the account to get the Bold or Storm with other carriers. Explain that you have been with them for years and should get a full discount for the new Curve 8900. That's what I did when I called and I got the phone for 299 - 100 mail in rebate and spread the payments in 4 billing/months. I've been with tmo for only 5 months. Got lucky on Feb 11th release date and received the phone two days ago. It took me 2 calls that morning to place the order. The phone is really great.

All in who you talk to and how you talk to them
Another 2 year extension. Which I feel "extension" is bad wording. It should be referred to as "reset", not "extend". 2 year extension sounds like adding 2 years to your current remaining contract, but all it does is reset your contract to a total of whichever "extension" you choose. I chose 2 year "extension", adding 5 months to my contract which had 19 months remaining, thus resetting my contract to 24 months not extending it an additional 24 months.

Has anyone been told that your 8900 order has been backordered? I ordered mine on 2/11 and have been waiting for a tracking number. When I called tmobile today, they say it is on backorder with no shipment date available.

i went to tmo store on 0211 they were sold out, so i ordered through phone.

did the whole contract and did pay for 19.99 upgrade for express shipping and was told it will be here tomorrow which is the 02/17

unable to find any tracking info. so i did chat with tmo two different times, one told me no ETA as to when it will be shipped. the other one told me it will get to me on 02/19.

i paid express shipping and backordered after i paid for it? not cool man, when i am out of office i am gonna call and see what's gonna happen.

will keep you guys posted...

yeah, did you pay for the 19.99 express shipping too?

its totally not cool on tmo

i am gonna call them, at least get my 19.99 back if i am still keeping the order. i couldnt call them during they day i talked to them via chat, all they did was sorry and more sorry, and sorry you cant cancel the order either.

wtf? its delayed and i cant even cancel and still have to pay the express shipping fee? that is unacceptable by any means.

i am gonna have to call them once i am home...

FWIW...The two TMO stores I went to yesterday in L.A. (for the locals, one near UCLA and the other at Olympic/Fairfax) are well stocked. One salesperson I asked said that generally, business has been slow the past few months and demand for the 8900 is no different then any other BB. Neither location had the phone on display.

Yep, same here. Ordered it on 2/11/09 and it hasn't even been shipped yet. The automated message says its processing. Called and talked with a rep and its backordered. Good thing I selected free shipping.

i called and they dont have an ETA on the bb, its ridiculous, they can take your money and brake the terms and condition when we signed up for the purchase and simply tell you its backorder, if we brake any terms and conditions, its a slap of ETF.
