Does OS 4.5 add SureType to Curves? I miss that from my Pearl.

TIA.

No, a Curve (qwerty) keyboard will never have SureType. That is only for a condensed keyboard like the 81xx and 71xx devices.

They all try to connect but don't seem to be accessing the T-Mobile data network. I'm also running into the same problem with Viigo. Every time I go to check a feed, It wants to me login, and it verifies me but won't download any of the feeds Im following. Ive added the wap.voicestream.net setting in the TCP area of advanced settings and redownloaded all the apps just to be safe. There has to be something Im missing. Either that or Im a little slow and there is a post somewhere around here saying the apps arent compatible with 4.5 yet. lol. HELP!!

Oh yeah, Im using an 8320 from T-Mobile with BIS.
If you haven't done, do a battery pull reboot and try again. That will often reset the communication and TCP settings.

I kinda knew the answer, but was thinking in terms of QWERTY + SureType: Once configured/figured out, it could easily be quite a speed improvement.

Thank you.

I have an 8320 on T-Mobile as well. I have never used wap.voicestream.net. I always use wap.voicestream.com. Try the later and see if that gets you going.

sorry, I mistyped. I did have .com, not .net. Serves me right for making a post that early in the morning. Im still having the same issue although BB Messenger seems to be working, but is massively delayed, by like 2-3 hours. It's not a network issue either as I have another T-Mobile BB user in the house with me with no issues. I'm not sure whats wrong with it.

1- BBMessenger messages don't travel over the TCP. If those are delayed by 2-3 hours, you can bet that you are having local network issues from Tmobile. If your other device is working well on BBM, test sending it a PIN message (Main message folder > Compose PIN) and see how long it takes. Send a reply, how long does it take?).

well, after several battery pulls and deleting all the apps and reinstalling them I seem to be back in business. I'm not sure what happened to be honest because I still had no connectivity after the last reset and then about 2 hours after I got a barrage of emails and decided to check to see if the service worked and they do. Thanks for the troubleshooting help The OS is great!

Default This isn't working for me...

I've tried installing this OS using the instructions listed, but it's not loading onto my phone... even when I use the application loader. Any suggestions?

The instructions work. I have used them numerous times.

Did you delete the vendor.xml file?

What other new features you guys have experienced with new 4.5 OS for Curve 8320? I am with TMobile USA too and bit hesistant to try the new OS (since the 4.5 OS is not officially released by the provider ) Also if something goes wrong can we revert back to 4.2.2.180 (the old OS)

Btw does the display look more crisp and clear now? Also how many of you are having ringing issues like ringtone not as loud or any other major annoyance with thew new OS?

Thanks

I'm on T-Mobile and have updated my firmware with pretty much anything I can find. The biggest issue I have ever had was with the MyFaves not displaying properly...but I figured that out, too.
4.5 is a HUGE improvement over 4.2. You won't regret doing it. As for volume and other issues, it is NOT that bad. I had to turn mine down to get it to normal levels for the office.
And, yes, you can revert back if you want to.

I'm using a tmob 8320 and I just upgraded to os 4.5 two days ago.

Here are a few observations.

1) Before upgrading, if you have the surreal theme, DELETE IT. I spent three hours trying to break my phone out of an endless crash loop. (I didn't know this was a known problem, but it is) Aside of the theme prob, everything else was smooth.

2) Video cam is great
3) Html email is great, except for spam, which I wish would go back to text.
4) Overall, the os feels a little sluggish
5) The voice quality is NOTICABLY better. It seemed like people would cut out when I spoke, making conversations a little more walkie talkie "ish". This is gone now.
6) Haven't noticed any difference with UMA quality either way.

I was getting a little bored and wanted to tinker with my phone. I'd say go for the upgrade, but lower your expectations a little. It's got a few new tricks, but there doesn't seem to be much to get excited about.

My 2cents

I have done about a half dozen upgrades to my 8320 since the first 4.5's starting floating around. I have never had too much trouble. I have had a couple white screens but was able to recover without much trouble.

I have been waiting for a good 81 or later release to use the new 16gb card option. My problem is, I dowloaded, ran the app, removed the vendor.xml, plugged in the BB, started DM and have not been able to get the upgrade option. Click on the app loader and it states that there are no updates available.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

I just upgraded and my system seems a bit slower than my last upgrade. I think my last was the .51. Any suggestions on speeding the up without downgrading?

Thanks guys for all the response. I will keep the upgrade to a hold till TMobile officially releases it to the masses.

Thanks,
I had this happen on a few of my upgrades. Even though it doesnt automatically recognize the upgrade, choose "next" from the app loader screen and then "advanced" and the upgrade of OS is listed there. Not sure why it is not automatic, but this worked also.

Cheers
