I updated the story, as this update is only available to BES users, and your network admin must allow you to update. As far as the update itself, don't expect a miracle build, but it does work on some things.

Definitely a step in the right direction.

How do I allow the update? I have installed the BES server for my work and have used pretty much the default settings on everything. I imagine I have to set this in the IT Policy but I am having trouble locating it.

So, I'm curious....where does the carrier fit in here? The carrier has to release it somewhere...How do the carriers and the BES Admins coordinate this?

I am noticing something in BES that I haven't noticed before. I wonder if it was applied with Service Pack 6. Anyway, when you highlight the Blackberry Domain, there is a tab all the way to the right called "upgrades". There are a bunch of things that can be selected, including my existing carrier. I haven't figured out how to update my device as of yet through this but it is a start I think in the right direction.

From what I've gathered, Verizon has released this build to BES admins. It's then at the admins discretion as to how they distribute it. But Verizon has received this build.

How does Verizon notify the BES Admins? Do the BES Admins have to sign up with Verizon somewhere so that Verizon knows whom they should release the software too? I am a BES Admin with a BES provisioned and activated Storm, but Verizon has not notified me of anything.

This is exactly what I was wondering. And why would Verizon only send these updates to BES users. It just doesn't make sense to me.

It doesn't make sense to me either. I have checked the VZW download page under the Corporate link and there is no new software available. This is where in the past I would get updates for devices that are BES activated.

On my BES server, I have noticed that the device details for my account has all of the Verizon carrier information. However at the bottom there is another field called Software Upgradeable that is set to false. I believe this is something that is Carrier controlled and not controlled by the BES server.

That maybe what you're looking for. Would that allow Verizon to push the upgrade out through DM when connected? Or are you saying you can't change it?

The Software Upgradeable setting? I am unable to find anywhere on my BES server where I can change that to True. I believe it is something that only Verizon can change. I have gone through the I.T. Policy several times and am not finding anything that remotely relates to Software Upgradeable.

Unfortunatly, I'm not a BES Admin so I'm not much help on that. Might take a phone call to Verizon (yeah, like they'll know anything.)

Do you have access to your BES Admin to ask him/her how they received the update and how they were able to push it to your phone? I see from your screen shot over at BlackberryNews.com that you ultimately did the update through the DM.

I don't have Verizon and I don't know if my BES Admin is pushing any updates like that. I do my own thing.

I didn't write the article, either.

I apologize, when I first looked at the article I could have sworn you had wrote it. I looked again and realize that Jason Mark wrote it and not you. I guess I assumed it was you because of both of your names starting with a "J".

I did post a comment asking for a bit more detail as to how BES Admins can update Storm BB's on their network.
