Default "Reload Radio Software"

I recently noticed this option is available on the 75xx series phones when upgrading the OS (and choosing advanced). I've googled around but can't really find any info as to what that actually does.

I'm interested in situations where that would be necessary or recommended or really, what it actually does.

I've actually used this on several user's Blackberries when, for whatever reason, the device won't connect to the provider even after resets and battery removals. Its very quick and no data is lost. In every case after the reboot the device began working properly again.

Well I have noticed that Nextel phones in general take a long time to connect. They like to sit there with an X for several minutes, so I set it next to my monitor with the speakers turned on so when I hear the ticking, I know it is doing the NXTL startup sequence.

My 7520 boots pretty quickly. I have noticed the more apps I have on my unit the slower it is though. So I try to keep them to a minimum.

I should mention during the initial setup or when going from radio off to radio on.
