First -- sorry in advance for cross posting (I hijacked a thread in the 8700 forum -- my bad). I think this belongs over here in this thread. I thought I had this solved, but I have not. Looking for some advice.

I have an 8800 (OS 4.2) on BES. I use it at work with my work computer with Outlook and MS Exchange Server. My work computer is my primary computer for my 8800 in the sense that my work computer has DM installed and my work computer runs on the network that BES and Outlook Exchange live on, etc. That all works great.

At home, I want to hook my 8800 to my home computer at night just so I can transfer media files (music and video) and charge the device. This home computer is therefore a second computer not on the same net as BES, etc.

I do not want email to be impacted at all by hooking up at home. (In otherwords, I am not trying to sync my home email and my work email).

I tried installing DM4.2 at home and hooking up my 8800 to my home PC. At first, DM complained about email redirection needing a new encryption key and made me move the mouse to generate a new key. Once I did that, the 8800 could not send email through BES.

After a device reset and plugging my 8800 into my work computer one time via USB, it all seemed to work. 8800 was working normally and I was able to access the microSD card on my 8800 on both machines. Perfect. Then I realised that there is at least one problem -- I could no longer get the full text of messages on my 8800. When the 8800 tries to retrieve "more" of the message, it complains about a problem with the service book (stupidly, I cannot recall the exact error). Same thing downloading attachments.

So, I went through enterprise activation again and that fixed everything.

What did I do wrong? Is there a way to do what I want to do?
