BlackBerry Storm Launch Event With The Foo Fighters In Los Angeles, California | BlackBerryNews.com

Welcome to the live feed of the BlackBerry Storm launch party in Los Angeles, California. The event is set to start at 7:30PM PDT and I will keep you updated the best I can.

The event tonight is scheduled to feature the Foo Fighters and Queens of the Stone Age.

I am starting this early because our readers are sending in pictures from the line. BlackBerry News is an invited guest and I will be arriving for the red carpet event.

If you will be attending shoot me an email at [email address] and I can meet our loyal readers.

Stay tuned for more updates as the event unfolds.

9:28 pm update: I am on the RED carpet at the event, waiting for the event to start. BlackBerryNews.com has our own special spot on the red carpet to await the ’stars’ to walk up the red carpet. My right and left neighbors on the carpet are Entertainment Weekly and Yahoo (we actually have a better spot on the carpet than most!).

The ’stars’ to arrive include Carmen Electra, Mario Lopez, Seth Green, Rob Zombie, Brian Bell (of the band Weezer), Jeremy Greene (on TV’s Living Lohan), and Dr. Dre, among many many others! I should be able to meet most as they pass down the red carpet.

Right now, the schedule is for the Queens to go on stage at 8:15, and the Foo Fighters at 9:45 p.m

Queens Of The Stone Age, as seen from my vantage point from the VIP area

9:11 pm, the Queens just left the stage. Foo Fighters are schedule for 9:45.

4 demos units in the crowd and 6 in the VIP. Troy is getting as much hands on as he can handle.

Foo Fighters just took the stage...

It takes getting used to, but nothing out of the ordinary.

How come the event tags say "official launch" when the phone has not launched?

I'm assuming to put together a launch party with the Foo Fighters and QOTSA, they had to start organizing it months ago. At that time, they probably planned on an early-November release. However, people that played with it last night say there are software issues (laggy, etc.), so VZW/RIM had to decide whether to move forward with last night's launch party for a delayed mid-to-late-Novmeber release or cancel it (and still pay the bands, the venue, etc.).

They probably made the decision to go forward and only provide 4 Storms for people to demo so that people wouldn't get to spend too much time with it and notice all the software issues. That is the telling part to me - THEY ONLY PROVIDED 4 STORMS. They easly could have had 30. They know it is not ready so they tried to limit people's access to it.

I'm very disappointed by the comments coming from the people who tried it last night. I was really hoping to pick this up November 15th, but now I'm not even sure it will come out by then, or even sure that I will want it when it does.

A lot faster than when I had hands on a few weeks ago at the Developer Conference but still a bad lag changing views.

Update on 4 Storms being available. 4 were down stairs for the start of the event and we had a total of about 10 upstairs at the VIP event. Once we were done with them upstairs a lot of them moved downstairs.

Honestly about 5% were there for the Storm event the rest were there for the Foo Fighters.

Also even though Verizon had a presence because they are the ones launching the Storm, it was a RIM event that was designed to be just a party. No announcements or anything.

I think I would have paid more attn to QOTSA and Foo Fighters than the Storm if I had been lucky enough to have been there. In a month you'll be able to mess with one all you want anywhere you want, but you only see the bands once or twice!
