Default Accented Vowels in SMS

Please Login to Remove!

Good Day everyone. BB 8900 v4.6.1.231

I use mainly spanish language for my comms (email, SMS and BB Messenger)

Accents work fine at BB Messenger, email and other applications, but they just won't work for SMS.

When writing a SMS I can only get the accent on the "é" letter. For the other 4 vowels (a, i, o and u) the right accent is not available, only the inverse accent (p.e. à or ì) Even the "ñ" letter works fine.

I have read many threats about this issue at different forums, but no real explanation or solution. It obviously has to do with the character set, but what blows my mind is that it works fine on every other application, and also for the "é" letter.

Any help will be appreciated, thanks in advance for your kind feedback.

Welcome to the forums.

What happens when you press and hold the letter while scrolling the trackball up or down?

Same thing that happens when scrolling it sideways, different options for the letter are available but not the right accent.

Hmm, not too sure as I don't use accented characters too often. Have you tried different OSes? It could be something in the OS.

Try setting up your SMS options:
1. Options
2. SMS
3. Data Coding: USC2
4. Then save and restart your smsing application.
N.B. With a Data Coding set to "USC2" you greatly reduce characters you can sent to only 70 versus 160 with a "7 bit" setting.
