Default How to Disable Firewall on Handheld (Red Lock)

Please Login to Remove!

Good afternoon!

i am a BES administrator but am kinda new to it and did not set up out enviroment but have recently inherited it

Either way, i have a user who is with TMobile and is using a Pearl. the user was able to use AIM fine forever until a week or so ago. She called TMobile and they told her that she needs to disable the firewall on the handheld.

When she tries to do so it reads
Firewall: Enabled but has a red lock out to the right meaning we are restricting it.

What is it that is forcing this? Is it the IT policy? if so what setting in particular?

The next thing is that we do not allow our users to use IM traffic at the office. with the BES on our network, does that inheritly mean that she cannot use AIM either? would the BES proxy all of that traffic through it first? I know that we dont send the BES server through the firewall (may be for that reason) but if we killed those ports on our firewall for the company, would that stop her from using it?

I cant imagine that this would be it as this just happened recently. the real issue here is that she cannot disable the firewall (although i dont think that is an issue as it is a security threat).

Any help would be great!!

The red lock indicated the option is set by the IT Policy. I don't know the policy rule off the top of my head. I would recommend that you download the Policy guide from the BlackBerry website. If you want to keep people from using IM clients on the BlackBerry you will want to review the policy rules and adjust your configuration. Are you really going to change it for just one user who is doing something you dont allow anyway?
