I've decided I'm going to keep this OS. That said, I'm anxiously awaiting the next upgrade. Although I've been able to manage it, the memory issue makes me a little uneasy.

Bedside mode and threaded SMS are the new features I enjoy most.

The browser changes are my biggest irritation. Column mode doesn't render as cleanly as it did before (test: Google Reader). Also, the browser seems slower to render pages. The WAP site here on BB forums seems to take significantly longer to load.

@NVMY03GT: I have not had any problems with GoogleSync. All Google apps are working fine so far, for me. Apart from a few 3rd party apps that simply don't work, which I listed above, the few problems I've encountered have been with the OS itself.

But so far so good..

I've had the phone reboot on me if I was on a call that was ~45 mins or so. This happened to me 3 times. Never happened to me prior to this OS. Anyone else experiencing this?

"...you may have to do the following “if present” as part of the process.

Did you guys have to do this? Whats the purpose of it? Sorry I am new to BB's and am trying to learn. I've done a bit of muffing with OS's on PC's a long time ago and I am sure I can figure this all out but I want to get familiar with everything. I've only had my Blackberry for about a month now, I actually didn't choose it, it was given to me - so I matters well have fun with it. ;)

Gotta admit.. this thing is pretty friggin neat.

Also, if I do upgrade the OS to the beta whats the chances my phone eventually breaks? Would my insurance cover that and I have to pay the premium to get a new phone? (I don't have another BB for a backup).

Just curious, like I said I am new. I've assembeled a lot of good info and don't plan on messing with things yet.

OS is noticeably faster and more responsive.
Menus are different in all system apps. Some things are in submenus, and menus have a more polished, rounded look.
3rd party themes (of course) no longer work.
SMS conversations are threaded.
Folder contents are now shown on a semi-transparent tab.
Profiles is now 'Sounds' app, and 'F' shortcut no longer works.
Volume options are now 1-10, silent and vibe. You can set length/count of vibe.
'Sounds' app has a better and easier to use menu system.
Alarm clock is now 'Clock' app, and 'R' shortcut no longer works.
Clock app looks like clock on outside of BB Flip when opened.
Bedside option is available.
Media player has a nicer interface.
Fast forward and rewind no longer move in chunks in the media player; you can move to any point in a song/video.
Photo interface pulls up all photos by default, and has a search bar at the top.
More font sizes are available in the browser.
Browser is NOT tabbed (disappointing).
There's a new Files app that's a file browser. Looks like it's meant for BES file sync, but it works fine for me as a device browser.

I had to re-download the following, but they worked fine once I did:

Facebook
Google Talk (RIM)
All Google apps

These apps worked fine without being reinstalled:

Pandora
Evernote
YouVersion Bible
Mobipocket Reader
BerryBuzz (had to type in reg code again after OS upgrade, had to be reconfigured)
SmartAlerts (had to type in reg code again after OS upgrade, had to be reconfigured)

These apps did not work after the upgrade:

BB App World
BBWeather
QuickPull Lite

Outstanding summary! I've been trying to locate the icon for the media player on my Curve 8330 since installing 5.0.0.230 and I just can't find it anywhere?

The only way I can play my music files is to use the File Browser to get to the MP3s, and then I launch them from there. Otherwise, there's no way I can find to get access to all of the media views at once (Music/Pictures/Videos/Etc.).

Did you have this issue was well?

They are individual icons now, they're not in a Media Folder.

Ooohhh... OK -- Gotcha. I see them, now.

Still -- I don't see one that's dedicated to music, only? I see Pictures and Video, however. Does your display show an icon dedicated to Music, specifically?

If so, where do you find it?

Thanks!

I didn't see mine either until I switched to using an RIM theme. My default Sprint theme and most of my 3rd party themes are buggy.

Try switching to one of the BB Dimension themes. You should then see the media player icon there.

I had to roll back 4.5, 5.0 was just too buggy for me.

My Media Player had many issues, my BlackBerry wouldn't charge in the cradle, memory leak as horrible (worse then my 8830).

I'm glad have my Blackberry stable again

My BB charges in the cradle although it does show the message that there's not sufficient power.

Hmm, Guess I never gave it enough to actually see if it was charging.

I'm going to wait for another build if their ever will be another one lol.

I like the 5.0 features, but the memory leak/media player bug it a killer for me.

Did the OS swap ther other day. Spent a lot of time on the phone today and I too was hearing the weird chirps and blips. Its not unruly though.

Phone seemed a bit slower booting but web seemed a little faster. Threaded SMS concept is pretty cool. Haven't used bedside mode but concept is good. App World will not connect for me either.

Something else... When I connect to the Desktop Manager, it says "this phone has insufficent memory" even though I have 0 apps downloaded and I have downloded App World using the browser.

I was just re-reading you guys post on memory. I was fishing today and used the phone for a total of probaly 50 minutes to an hour and my browser for a good 2.5 hours. I just looked and it the device was low so I did a reboot and was still at 15 megs. Did a battery pull and was at 20.

I decided to roll back to 4.5 as well. I loved the threaded SMS and will miss it. The bedside mode and clock features were nice as well, but the rebooting after being on the phone for 45 minutes is too much. Very frustrating when you're in the middle of a conversation and you have to wait for the device to reboot.

Also, the memory leak is terrible, and the lag when typing is a pain as well. This is the first time I rolled back an OS.
