Default Display Network on 8330

Is there a theme or app that will display what network/tower I am connected to on my 8330?

Do you mean having it say 'Alltel' at the top? What theme are you currently using?

Yes, I mean having it say 'Alltel' or 'Verizon' etc.. if that's the tower I'm currently on.

I currently use the BB Dimension Zen theme.

Maybe it's different with the 8330, but I'm using the BB Dimension Zen theme as well and it says AT&T in the center at the top. If I turn off the connections, AT&T goes away. What does it say at the top under the date?

The battery level indicator is directly below the date.
I'd post a screen shot, but I just moved and haven't located my cable to connect my BB to the computer yet.

Do you have a signal and are you able to make calls?

Verizon is 1XEVDO or 1XEV

That's the signal indicator, not the carrier name.

Whatever that triangle thing is in the center; that's what is being pushed from your carrier. Mine says AT&T in that spot. Maybe it's an icon that stands for Alltel???

The problem is I have moved to a new area and I am caught between two towers. One that I get a decent to good signal on and one that I can barely get a signal on which seems to be the one the phone wants to stick with.

I'm trying to find a way to get the phone to display which network I am currently connected to (actually, not just 'Alltel' even though it's a Verizon tower) so I can drop Alltel and go with the carrier here that is providing the good signal.

As far as I know, Alltel doesn't provide service here natively, I believe Verizon is the major carrier for this area.

If the phone has the slightest of signal from Alltel, it's going to default to that. Even if the Verizon signal is greater. You can try Options > Mobile Network > and then force it to another network.

Tried that too. My options there are Automatic and Home only. If I place it in Home Only the phone loses signal completel/disconnects from the network, which reinforces my thinking that there isn't a native Alltel tower here.

Thanks for the help, I guess I'll look into other avenues of determining which is the best provider for this area.

That "triangle thing" is apparently to show that you are roaming. I found that out from a different thread. It makes sense because I am indeed roaming when that is showing.

My phone is on Sprint and I too do not see the word Sprint when I am on their towers (I don't think you will ever know who's tower you are on when you are roaming, but I could be wrong). In my area, there are generally only two CDMA carriers, Verizon and Sprint. I just changed back to Sprint from Verizon because of the service plans and pricing, and because Verizon locks their phones and network down WAY too much. However, in my house only, my signal SUCKS from Sprint, where the Verizon signal was good. Since it's only in my house and I have two landline phones I can use there, I don't really care that much, but it can get a little frustrating. I just wish the Curve's from Sprint or Verizon had WiFi instead of GPS. WiFi is much more important to me.

CDMA networks do not show anything in the carrier spot that AT&T or T-Mo so, and no matter what theme you use they will not show up
