I'm trying to install OS 4.5 on my 8300, and everything seems to be fine except that:

(a) At the end of the installation process it told me it hadn't re-installed the third-party programs but that I could reload them as a jad file using the Desktop Manager

(b) Not only will it not let me re-install the back-up, it won't even let me synchronize! It gets to about 149 in the contacts list and then stops. I eventually get bored waiting for it to restart, pull the battery out and start again. I've tried this three times now and it's not getting any better.

I suppose I could throw my hat at it and go back to the previous OS, but I'm really curious about this one...

I notice in the listings it's 4.5.10 -- should I try to get a higher one? Is it 4.5.18 that I want?

RIM should leak an "OS" that bricks the devices of those who dont have an official version, following Apple's lead. that would be hilarious.

AND WE STILL WOULDN'T ALLOW IT HERE. So even though everyone wants it ... we'd protect them.

Ahhh ... 4.2.2; so many less problems

Yeah, and for extra laughs they should all start wearing black polo necks and spend squillions on advertising but lock their products to only one carrier and have a built-in, unreplaceable battery, and charge a fortune for it all? Come on -- there's NOTHING wrong with wanting to try out a new OS before it is officially released!

nope try it out all you like. but complaining when things dont work is just as stupid as releasing an OS that will brick your device. You (and i mean that collectively) are trying an OS that isnt ready yet, it has problems. some versions have severe problems others are are minor but just as annoying. If you are going to have software that you by all rights should never see, then deal with it, dont complain.
