Default iPhone Newbie

Please Login to Remove!

My sister wants me to find her an iPhone and I have no idea where to start. These are all the details I have to go on so far:
  • Used
  • First or second generation (most likely first I'm guessing)
  • Unlocked
What is a good price? Used, but near perfect condition...

She is not looking to sign up for new service.

Any advice appreciated, thanks.

I would find one that is 1st Gen, Used and Unlocked. If you can get one with the new OS on it unlocked even better. I would not get one that has been jail broke.

Thanks for the responses. I am so lost haha. I thought "jailbroken" meant unlocked... She isn't an AT&T customer. She's in London, not even sure what carrier she uses.

Price quotes for used, first gen?

Avoid JailBroken, just unlocked. Not sure about a price they have maintained a good resale value.

I would do some checking on eBay for prices.

I am no iPhone expert but I beleive JailBroken allows you to install unautorized applicatons and unlocked is just that unlocked.

If she is not a techi type person avoid JailBroken.

Correct all the way around. Avoid a Jailbroken phone if you can. I would check on eBay and Craigslist for a price range that she can expect to spend.

I thought JailBroken is a good thing? It's been awhile since I've looked into a iPhone

I think that it is good and bad at the same time. Good so that you can do quite a bit more, and bad, because when you do a lot more, things tend to not always work correctly. The old adage "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" comes to mind. If you can live with how the iPhone is in stock form, it seems to work out better.

When I had mine, I wanted to Jailbreak mine, but was too chicken to attempt it. I had a bad experience flashing a RAZR a few years ago that has left a sour taste in my mouth when it comes to flashing and modding software/firmware of phones.

Just like all products...the longer the thing is in existence...the more refined the hacking code...jailbreaking an iPhone has come a long way...So I've heard...still illegal...not that that's a bad thing...uh goodbye

Default hmm

well the best way to get the first one is to go on ebay all over that site. dont pay more then 300 for it or 250. to be honest i like the i phone just because it looks cool and its an ipod at the same time, but not worth the money the battery will only last half the day and after one or two drops that phone is gone. Oh and im a guy with like 15 phones and some how i still end up dropping my sim card back in my 8300 or 8700 or my 8800. like they say once you go black you never go back lol
