Default Help!! Attempts to connect to home wifi keeps giving me a W010 error

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

I have a T-Mobile branded 8320 that I've unlocked and am using on a Cingular/AT&T network. I'm attempting to connect to my home wifi network using a Linksys WRT54G router.

The phone will see the network, regardless if it's open or encrypted, and the wifi signal bars are full, but it always times out with a W010 error when I try to connect.

I've double checked my router settings so I'm confident they're correct. Are there any phone or router settings that I should verify that may be the problem?

Thanks.

ok so you're saying that you disabled the WEP key security setting and tried to connect with no success?

That's correct. I'm beginning to think it's a setting on the phone that I don't have set correct.

Does setting APN to wap.voicestream.com in the phone manke any sense? I read this somewhere on this board.

if you are on ATT network our APN is wap.cingular

if you got the phone unlocked that may be the APN for the intended carrier of that phone

anyway I don't think that the APN has anything to do with connecting to your network. Your phone recognizes it but doesn't connect. It may be a setting in your Linksys. I'm not too familiar with linksys. If it were a Netgear I'd be able to help. Try doing a reset of your router to bring it to factory default and try connecting. There should be a reset hole on the back you can hold down for like 30 seconds

Yes it is a T-Mobile branded phone unlocked to be used on the AT&T network.

What exactly is the APN input for?

apn is the access point name for anything that requires a connection to function.

I suggest doing that master reset on your router, going somewhere where there is a free wireless hotspot and seeing if you can connect. If you are having same issues then it may be a problem with the device. I havent had a call where a BB crapped out because of a wifi problem. Do you have any other wireless devices at home like a laptop , pda that can connect just fine?

Thanks for the replies. I figured out the problem. I didn't have options>mobile network>data services set to on.

Is it possible to manually assign the phone an IP address and turn off the router's DHCP feature?

W010 code from here:
Wifi / UMA Error Codes - BlackBerryFAQ

is:

Quote:
W010 - Wi-Fi Connection Failed

Meaning: The wireless network is no longer in range, or it has a weak signal.

1. The wireless network is not in range or has a weak signal to provide a successful connection.

2. If the attempt to connect is through the Saved Networks list, the network may not be available or the profile saved has different security settings than the available wireless network.

3. If the attempt to connect is through the Available Networks list, then the user has probably walked out of the area of coverage of that particular wireless network.
Item number 2 may be the issue if your signal is strong. Try going with no security at all and another network like a Hotspot and see if you can get a connection on some router at least.
