Default Please Help with Pearl!!! I so don't know how to do this!!

Please Login to Remove!

Hi everyone! I am new and so technically challenged it's not funny... Here's my situation. We lived in so cal, had at&t, moved to central oregon, now have unicel. One month before unexpectially moving, my husband bought a pearl from at&t, now we can't get internet browsing on Unicel. I have put in apn.unicel.com in the apn settigns, left the user name and password blank... doesn't work. Any suggestions or is it a hopless cause with unicel... should I try and switch to t-mobile? Thanks for the help as I don't know how to do this on my own!!!

First, welcome to the Forums...

Pull the battery AFTER each change in the APN settings.

What you have put in, is all that needed. Leave the username and pw blank.

apn: apn.unicel.com

Another moderator here is in your same area and I know I have read here that he has used those same settings and they worked.

Is your AT&T BlackBerry unlocked to be used on another carrier?

yes, I got it unlocked and the phone function is working but at the top of the phone it says that the data connection is refused and the globe that normally appears that you click on to access the internet disappeared! Does the internet function need to be unlocked? Should I clear all apn settings, remove the battery, enter in the apn, remove the battery and hope it works?

Maybe you just forgot to signup for that with Unicel.

Data Connection Refused means that you do not have a BlackBerry Data Plan on the device. You will need a BB Data Plan for that to go away... you will not the "globe" internet browser without the Data Plan.

so without a blackberry data plan, there is no way to get an internet connection? We did get a general data plan from unicel... is that not enough? unicel doesn't offer a BB data plan :(

I am going to ask John Clark, another moderator here and who uses Unicel to read this thread. Check back in a while to see if he has responded.

no problem. I know you need a Data Plan to get full internet, the browser, and push email. If Unicel does not have a BB Data Plan, I know I have read John explain that he has a Unicel BB to the Opera Mini browser with.

Ya you have to have a BB data plan to have internet on a BB. It seems as though Unicel doesnt carry any BB for this reason.

My post indicates it is a browser, which yes, it does access the internet, and no, you are not ignorant.

Yes, you'll need to install Opera Mini on the device in order to get any internet.

My wife uses an unlocked BB Pearl on Unicel. Be aware you won't be able to download anything OTA (over the air) to the device. All applications will need to be installed via Desktop Manager.

There is no Blackberry Data Plan available on Unicel

I don't have his phone available (he's at work) so when I do get it, how do I get it on his phone if I have saved it to my home pc?

Down load the Opera Mini file from the link I gave you, to your PC.

Open Desktop Manager on your PC with your BB connected, then Application Loader. Look for the file you downloaded (should end in .alx). and Application Loader will do the rest.
BlackBerry Desktop Manager Downloads - BlackBerryFAQ

You must have your current handheld Operating System loaded to your PC before you do this or you will get an error message. Find your OS version at Options > About on your handheld, the line beginning with "v.4."

Melissa, you need the Desktop Manager software installed. You can get it from here:

BlackBerry - BlackBerry - Sys Req V4-2 Pack 2

Application Loader is in the Desktop Manager software. Once installed simply open Desktop Manager and you will see the application loader.
