Hi! This is my first post because I just got my Blackberry Pearl 8100 and it's superb!

I just have one dilemma, I really need to know how to view .txt (text files) on my blackberry!! Is there any way? I got it because it's like a PDA and I thought it would have this basic functionality to let me view .txt files.

How can I do this does anyone know ?

You should be able to save them to a media card (hopefully you have one.)

Then go to Media >menu key >Explore and browse to the file and click on it. It should open it.

or you could copy and paste the text into a memo in Outlook. That's what I do with all my text files I want on the BB.

Hey John and Walt! Thanks for the prompt responses, I really appreciate it !

John: I don't have a media card, do I need one to view .txt files? I can't view .txt files with just the phone's default memory?

Walt: I have a LOT of txt files I need to open. About 114 .txt files which are all very large. In terms of data storage, they are .txt files so it's not big. But in terms of the amount of text, it is abundant. So I manually copying in memo would not be feasible.

OK, If I have a very large text file on my computer... how can I copy this to my memo ?

hmmm... ok.

click on the text file > right click to select all (or Control + A) and right click again to COPY (or Control + C).

Move to a new Outlook Memo > right click > Paste.

Voila!

I can see where copying a large amount of text files to memors would be time consuming. I'm not sure how else you can do it.

memo pad thing has a text limit from the best I can tell, so be aware of that.

Yea, the user may have to just man up and spend a little money on a Media Card and an application like BeamBerry to read the files.

It is all according to how important the issue is... if it is important, he will acquire the tools to do such.

If you only need to view and not edit, I would recommend MobiPocket Reader http://mobipocket.com/. They make a version for the BB and the Desktop.

After installing the software on the BB and the Desktop, you use the Desktop to import the Text files. Works great for PDF, MS Office stuff, etc. As long as you wish to view it all it good!

Yes, the issue is important so I will buy a MicroSD card, God willing.

Yes, I only need to VIEW the text files and not edit... it seems MobiPocket is free, am I right?

So with a MicroSD card, and MobiPocket reader, I can easily view LARGE text files conveniently with my Blackberry ?

Hey, I just downloaded the Mobipocket Reader... it is wonderful!!! I don't even need a MicroSD card, this lets me view all the text files I want! Thanks KrzyPearl!!

You are welcome! Nice to give something for a change. These forums have given me a wealth of information!

MobiPocket is like a "best kept secret" for some reason. I use it on the Palm as well. It has its issue like anything, but I have found it VERY useful.

I would also recommend the beta instead of the released version for the BB. I think is it easier to navigate in.
