My trackball is not working and ive had a look around and everywhere is telling me to remove the trackball for cleaning, i could do this but then it may effect my returns policy and then i may not be able to return it faulty.
Please can someone tell me if this will 100% work or if it will 100% fix the problem if i replace the trackball?
Tirn the device off. Press and roll the trackball in all directions for at least a minute or more. If you have some "canned" air, blow that all around the ball, while pressing it in.
Turn on the device and see if that helps. If not, you will need to at least take the ball out and/or replace it. There is no 100% guarantee for anything when it comes to electronics.
YES! I have a 9630 Tour - the trackball wasn't moving down AT ALL - so I went and watched a YouTube video (search How to replace Blackberry Trackball - Tutorial by Gazelle) and since I was already just 2 months past my warranty I had nothing to lose by taking the phone apart - so I did, (DUBDUB - tried your sugg and it didn't work - but TSAC is right - if its within the 1 yr warr - have them replace it as your first option) followed the video (BUT also remembered to remove the SD card right after the battery or it CAN break during disassembly) ...followed the rest of the video and just cleaned the trackball w alcohol and compressed air vs. replacing (didn't want to wait for a new one) and BOOM - SUCCESS! It was EASY - 10 mintues tops, now its like NEW !!
I've done the same on trackball-based units. You can successfully clean the ball, but be VERY CAREFUL when removing parts, cleaning, and reinstallation.
